Good morning - for the past 2 weeks the Clover 2% long life milk is not frothing the way it used to. This morning I opened a new one and it didn't froth at all. I checked the frothing spout and there's nothing wrong with it. Anyone experiencing a similar problem?

Allways use fresh FULL cream milk, and taste the difference in your coffee. The protein and fats in full cream are of nutritional benefit to us lot anyhow....

Life is too short for that milk. FULL CREAM FTW. Leave the long life for office people who drink that stuff that dissolves in water and comes out of a big metal tin............

I actually prefer 2% milk because the full cream wouldn't frof as nicely. I might need to rethink that and improve my technique. :-)

I'm looking to sell my Gaggia Classic. Any thoughts about what should I be asking for it?

It's in good condition (newish group gasket) and I've backflushed regularly etc.

It has a naked portafilter with 21g and 14g baskets. I've changed the steam wand out for a Rancilio Silvia one which works much better. I have also have a thermometer hooked up to the boiler to give better information about when to brew.

Any interest/any suggestions about what I should ask for it?

I am looking seriously at starting roasting at home. I have read up a lot, bought books, hung around on forums dedicated to roasting and spoken to local roasters. Not to mention countless interwebs resources.

Hottop and Gene both make home roasters, prices vary from around 10k to almost 30k. At the top end you can write profiles on a pc and upload and on the bottom end you have to sit and manually adjust the temp ramp and temp by hand for the duration of the roast. Quantities per roast in the region of 350g to 500g

Anyone here have any experience or knowledge or interest in this field?

I have always been super interested in the home roasting side of things, bought a popcorn maker and have done some...

I prefer the idea of manual control over the preset stuff... my mate roasts manually for his shop and swears by it.

Manual is certainly cheaper. I may go for a system where I can program a profile in the machine or run it manually. Hottop make a machine like that for around 22k. The PC thing doesn't really appeal to me. I would have to buy or borrow a PC as I'm Mac based for the photo editing and that idea doesn't fill me with excitement.

I think part of the joy of something like roasting comes from the involvement and the process involved... if that makes sense, I know when my mate roasts which is almost daily now he says its like a break for him, just roasting, nothing else!

*he has a giant Giesen roaster but still :-)
