As far as I can tell they are the X equivalent of Shimano's "gravity" range.They are supposed to have more stopping power, less fade and better modulation than the XT's at a marginal weight diff... If you look at the pads they are almost twice the size of normal pads. This equates to way more stopping power and less fade on long descents.
