I see it this way, Evans is still the main threat to Wiggans (from outside Sky), and as such, Wiggans is gonna mark him.

Nibali is full of confidence, and is going to hit it hard at some point in the mountains (probably along with Taaramae, Vellits and Zubeldia), Sky will have to cover the move, and Froome is the obvious choice to do so. I see him taking the yellow, and probably the final placings between him and Wiggans being decided in the final TT, with it going a handful of seconds either way.

That was my thinking on his chance to get into yellow, but Andrew Mclean put exactly that scenario to him last night on supercycling, and, dissapointingly Froome's reply was that we would have to stay with wiggins in such a situation... Seems Wiggins will have to completely crack before the team give Froome the freedom to go for it in the mountains.

It's interesting to see when people talk about Wiggins they mention it is sill a long way to Paris...the same applies to Froome. He hasn't had the same exposure as Wiggins, so maybe he's not number one in the team for a reason?

I personally don't like Wiggins and will root for Froome all the way. I'm praying he has what it takes to get to the end in the same or better shape than he is now. Then we will know for sure what he is made of and what the future holds.

Nice to have someone so close to home doing so well.

Everyone who has really made it in cycling has made it by moving outside RSA. You will not get anywhere if you stay here.

I think it's looking like it, and frankly I think it's bloody poor and bad for the sport.

He's doing what he is paid to do.

Wow, now there's a non-committal response.

We all know that, but that wasn't the question, and as a spectator I want to see the best man win, not just do as he is told.

Well, sorry to prick the balloon of your naivety, but that is never going to happen in paid sport.

I think the questions were answered today. Froome pulled wigins and then dropped him when he attacked. Chris had to sit up and wait for Wiggins.

...and not even a mention from Wiggy in the interview.

We might as well all take a chill pill.

Whether Sky let's Froomie go or not, we all know who the real winner is in the end of the day.

I noticed before the final ascent how nervous Wiggins was around Chris, I saw Frank looking in his direction, they know, we all know who the strongest man is.

I wrote this in the other thread.

Froomie is loyalty personified.

That's exactly what I said earlier in the thread, we all think all out winner but the politics is just insane, the pecking order even worse.

I will say this of Froome.

I dished a wheel for this 16 year old kid who wanted to go and "win a race in Kenya", it was late in the evening, he and his dad came across as two of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting (not often I will do last minute wheel dishing after 18:00, but when the folks are nice, one can't help)

From there Froomie just started working hard at his cycling, riding insane hours a day, he spent time with Super-C with one of the ugliest bikes I ever built, then there was Hi-Q and from there it became really hard when he joined Konica, they paid him a pittance, barely enough to cover his food and lodging.

He won the white jersey at the Giro Del Capo and also took a medal at the worlds B-champs time trial, I recall spending nearly an entire afternoon with him in the parking lot to tweak his position on a borrowed bike.

Thank the Lord for Robbie Hunter, he spotted Froome and from there with a slightly better income, his cycling improved and he went better places, however he needed more help, more guidance and more moolah.

Sky stepped up to the plate, the richest team in the Peloton today, thanks to them he had access to top class advice, dietitians and coaches, these guys did a lot for Froomie and really offered him the springboard he needed.

I need to include, that of all cyclists on this entire planet, pro, amateur or fun rider, he works the hardest, insane hours on the bike, sensible logic and discipline all that paired with the humility of a monk, and we have greatness.

Froomies biggest attribute is loyalty, unless something really bad happens within the Sky camp, he is there to stay.

Now if I was the owner of that team, I would find a very subtle way to get rid of Wiggins in time to come (but that is just me)

Not to mention talent. :whistling: Lovely to read about your connection with him as a junior.

Sky might be a good place to be for Froome right now but I sure hope he doesn't stay there too long. He might be holding that maroon passport but he sure ain't never going to be British enough until circumstances necessitates him taking top spot or for as long as Wiggins is around. Wiggins could be there for another 5 years which will be a career wasted if Froome stays there that long.

Realistically Froome wouldn't be where he is today without Sky. It is his job and obviously a firm commitment for him personally to honour the team plan and put Wiggins - love him or hate him - on top of the podium in Paris. What happens afterwards though is anyone's guess.

There's other grand tours with big climbs Chris can take on (and possibly win) without The Wig so lets see how this pans out with Sky. This is really his first big showing this year, had to miss a few others due to illness.
