I think you mean Fignon, and he led Lemond by 50 seconds going into the final-stage time trial on the Champs Elysees. Lemond beat him by 58 sec. Hinault retired in 1986.

That's the guy, pony tail and glasses ;) Don't think the TT was on the Champs Elysee though was it?

Froome's chances are shot to **** in the tdf 2012

Maybe the vuelta for him as no 1 at sky...

Next year is a complete different ball game but i think froome should stick to sky his day will come.

I think Froome is stuck between a rock & a hard place.

He's got a 3yr contract with Sky. I don't see Sky won't just letting him go, especially after his performance at TDF. Also don't think that there's another team out there that's got the money to buy him out of his contract.

So he's stuck !!

Wiggins needs a BIG mechanically problem at the next TT.

I think there is room in Sky for Froome for sure, I don't think there is room for his gobby girlfriend and her twitter hissy fits.

He's going to get his wins and have the support of team but this year he was hired for a job. A job he agreed to, took the coin and said 'yup i'm in'. If he thought he could win the tour this year then he should have held out and got leadership of another team and gone for it.

His riding has been epic and I like him a lot but please don't go bitching and moaning about how you're the best in the team / tour but are held back to do your job... it's your job. It's not like Wiggo was 15 minutes down the road blowing up and he was going to lose 2nd his place by pacing him back.

Froome has much to thank Sky for, he knows this and is grateful for it.

He is having a dream Tour thanks to them.

I like what someone said in the other thread, he first has to pay his school fees finished.

As for the twitter rants, oh dear what can we say.

Sunday will also never be the deciding day, after Saturday it's done and dusted, Sunday is a formality.

He hasn't complained about it at all, it is the armchair experts that get their knickers in a knot about it.

I think that a true racer will want to win as many TDF as he can, I do not like this "he will have his chance later", it is the TDF! You must try and win everyone you can if you can!

Unfortunately Froome is doing a job he accepted and is being paid for. His only chance was if Wiggins had a bad day and he had to mark Nibali or Evans. He could then go with to ensure the win for Sky. But that not gonna happen. The problem is, sometimes your chance to win a TDF may only come once, and on his form he could've won this year.

So he could have 2 Grand Tour wins if it wasn't for Wiggins..........

Ah... they must have cancelled the role of domestiques this year then. No one wins tours, any tour on their own. It is the TDF, the Giro is the Giro and every race is every race to a professional and teams win races. it's not a race of 200+ individuals.

I think the best solution for sky going forward will be to make the two co-leaders of the team. Froome could easily have dropped Wiggo quite a few times in this tour, but like previously stated, his role this year was to work for Wiggo...

If they are co-leaders its a different story. Strongest man on the day will take time out of the other one... They have 7 other domestiques after all...

Co-leaders never work. T-Mobile proved that. So did Astana.

The team went with a "Plan B" in Froome. They didn't need it.

Although Froome is clearly stronger that Wiggins at this stage, once has to respect the iron fist with which Wiggins is captaining that team. There is no doubt who the leader of Sky is. And yes, the leader is not necessarily the strongest rider.

Froome will get his chance to win the tour, Wiggins also confirmed that. It's just not this tour and it will not be next years tour. Cannot imagine the defending champ going into the tour as Plan B.

Besides all this, Wiggins has shown that he is quite strong himself. I have been very impressed with his form. Wheel sucking or not, you steel need to be strong to suck the wheels of Rodgers, Porte and Froome in the Pyrenees. I think we saw that when somebody activated Cadel's ABS.
