Nyrobian born got some seconds on conti, its not over yet, beacause the climbs isn't steep enough for contador to attack, but Froome Dawg will match him if not better him.

Great ride by Froome!!

Froome has a lot more explosive power than people think.....don't know where the diesel thing comes from....must because he spends so much time in front of Wiggens during the tour..:)) ,but he has shown last year how fast he is when he goes in the mountains.

But it is expected for him to be strong during the first week,it is the last week that worry me....seriously hoping he can stay strong!!

I do egree with kranswurm....odd rider,he gives me a hard attack every time i watch him climb because he looks to have very bad patches of suffering and then the next moment he goes like hell...today with about 2 km to go It looked like he was very close to getting dropped by he's own teammates and then Uran goes like a bullet and he just takes over and drop conto!!

Yeah, I agree a bit too short for him, plus 'Berto was hardly dropped, all he lost in real time to Chris Froome was 10 / 12 seconds, so "distanced" a bit I would say, but by no means dropped.

....but you wont keep 'Berto down, maybe he had a bad day or maybe he just limited his loss and conserved his energy, he has said already that his aim this week was to just stay out of trouble, get his racing legs back and he will review his objectives on the two consecutive massive mountain top finishes next week, where, he says, the race for overall will really start. So lets see, still very early indeed.

SKY rode well today, very clever to keep the pace high and eliminate the chance of Contador attacking like crazy. Like I said a couple days ago, two different riding styles pitched against each other makes it interesting.

The only concern for me would be that SKY need to do this as much as possible in the upcoming mountains to nullify Contadors attacking style. This will surely work the SKY guys into the ground.

I think Froome is stronger than Contador, but if left to himself against those attacks of Contador it could work against him.

But all said and done, I'm merely an armchair spectator, and SKY employ guys to work out these details!

Good ride by Froome today, although just a few seconds, SKY really seem to enjoy the mindgame side of it.

For sure, suck wheel then break only to be caught quite easily and beaten by two other riders, Despite losing a time to steak munching pistol pete, Froome showed much more aggression.

Jeezlike scotty you obviously cant stand Contador..

I think after wednesday Froom will be in the lead by maybe up to a minute over Contador as he has half a minute now, and will gain another 30seconds in the TT RODRIGUEZ & VALVERDE might be 2 minutes down unless they can pull something out the hat..

then its game on.. the last week is going to be carnage..

Yeah imo to much...other day he was pulling on the fron for the sprinters... wtflip for?

He needs to save his energy for Contodor and the other GC contendors...

Quite right, hate to say this but it looks like he is busy fine tuning his motor for later in the tour

Hope i'm wrong

Chris has only got about 7 sec's over 'Berto now Bos, 'Berto took a big chunk back on Sat, but he is also no slouch in the TT so I dont expect him to lose more than a few sec's to Froome, who I believe is better in the TT.

Rodriguez is about a minute over 'Berto and 53 secs over Chris, so even if he loses two minutes, which is likely, he is still well within striking distance - he certainly will not be out of the race. Valverde may lose a bit as he has no buffer, but in reality I think he is just here for stage wins and a high place overall, unless something dramatic happens to Chris, 'Berto and Rodriguez I dont think he can podium.

I dont think so :D - that little pump of his just needs a few more hours of "break in" and its gonna be at full capacity. :D

Froome has 7 seconds on Contador.

Doubt Contador is going to sit back and let Froome win.

The fight is on !!!!

There was an interesting comment in Cycle Sport Mag that they felt there were too few ITT's which favoured the climbers. There is only one left

Yeah, Quite a few people have lamented that.

My opinion is the Vuelta is looking for exposure, mountains and mountain top finishes are usually very exciting and that brings spectators, but its also fair to say the TDF favored the TT exponents this year and lacked mountain top finishes for the true climbers, so I dunno, 6 of one half a dozen of the other I guess.?

I think too much emphasis on TT's makes for boring racing as the strongest TT rider knows he just needs to defend defend defend in the mountains (the wiggins formula). Seems to me the Vuelta has it about right... things are shaping up really nicely...
