That's such BS. SA has excellent roads, some of the best.

Here's a fact: roads get potholes. Civilians are not allowed to perform road repairs or modifications.

SO roadies are crying because when they ride in bunches, illegally hogging the road and not riding in the cycle lane, they crash in the potholes????

You don't read to well do you !!!! And what about my motorbike ? Well done to all involved for fixing the road !!!!

We have some potholes about 300m from where I live, I cannot tell you how many times the idiots have been to fix it but I have lived here 2 years now and in those 2 years they have probably 'fixed' it around 7 times at least. All they do is come out with about 10 idiots, some bags of tar, a compactor and spend the whole (hole) day buggering around, inbetween 'pap' o'clock and 4'o'clock. The scrape a little of the old surface back and thats it. Fill her up!

As soon as it rains or 3 trucks have passed over it then the hole is back. SA roads are a nightmare at the best of times. I am suprised the insurers are not bringing more claims against the various municipalities and road departments. Someone should be held accountable for the sorry state of the roads, whoops, my mistake, there is no accountability here for anything.

Firstly well done to the guys fixing the road. Not sure if legal or not or if it lasts for more than one rainy day. At least something is being done. However - your calling the unskilled labor who earn pretty much the same as you probably spend on your cell phone or a few bike services "idiots" in general is simply arrogant and no, arrogance does not make your statement more credible or correct.

OMG you got me rolling on the floor . So its ok for the worker (skilled or not ) to just waste my money ? That is what they are doing by not doing it right the first time .

ok, when you get up from rolling on the floor, ask yourself if the worker you call "idiot" is the one responsible for the road maintenance schedule f-ups in Joburg?

Wow, arrogance, sjoe! As far as I am concerned they are idiots because they cannot fix the problem right the first time, and before we hear the bleating you don't need a degree in civil engineering to do this, just some, wait for it, common sense, prehaps you would like to employ these highly intelligent workers where you are then?

They might not be responsible for the schedule but they are responsible for their general slapgatness, do it right the first time. They have all the tools and gear, so whats the excuse?

Most of you guys have nothing better to do, we have been at two of the accidents from those holes and trust me it was not a nice thing to see or experience! So all of u that bitch and moan on this site do me a favor and rather bitch at your wives. The fact of the matter is that NO ONE has done anything about the wholes for over a month and as a result alot of people have been injured and one fatal!!!!!

So I stand by what we did.... End of story

exactly triathlete. i don't think anyone who actually saw the scene this past weekend would make some of the stupid comments above. Kudos to you guys once again.

As for this Nishiki tjop - finally I have a reason to try out the ignore function on the Hub.

Am sure we can answer that ourself, if we apply our mind.

It seems you are quite a **** strirring person by nature. Only you will know why you had to make this a roadie issue. Everybody are roadusers at some point by car or by bike and will have to face the damage what a pothole can do.

I take it you do not travel much out of the Cape then. The Western Cape has in my opinion the best roads in the country and I used to say the Northern Cape were not far behind them but it seems on my last trip that I have to re-evalutate my statement on the Northern Cape. The roads have gone back quite a bit over the last 18 months.

I suggest that you should travel all over the country more regularly (this is now out of the Western Cape) to help you get rid of your ignorance on South African roads. I just got back from a two week trip travelling through Gauteng, North West, Northern Cape and the Freestate. My friend the roads are bad at some places. While you at it maybe you should take a drive up to Limpopo and Mpumanlanga. Oh and just the other day I went through the Eastern Cape as well.

You could also save yourself some time and study the road reports the AA publishes on their website. It gets updated every week or so.

Seems like this Nishiki thingy has never been on a bicycke in his live. Like Scotty said all clubs presenting races attempt to fill the potholes on the routes as far as they can. Some orginizers get some support from the relevant municipalities to help fill these potholes.

Well done guys for fixing this. What is the worst offence or illegal act in this case? the council not repairing these potholes? or the People doing these temporary repairs?

Here are some people that say it is illegal for anyone but the council or road agencies to make repairs to the roads. So what about these private contractors diffing up the roads to lay what I think is fibre cabels al over Jhb?

Haters are gonna hate dude! Don't take much notice about what they say. They certainly wouldn't be commenting the way they are if they had actually seen this issue and lived it themselves.

Splendid job. Legal or otherwise and even if it only lasts for 3 weeks. Could be that someone could've gone down in these 3 weeks and got hectically injured or lost their life too.

This situation reminds me of an old saying:

3 kinds of people - those who make things happen, those who watch things happen and then those who bitch and moan wondering WTF happened...
