i suck one before the race and 1 on every hour, it makes it easier to calculate the time, otherwise you gonne go mad trying to keep up with every 45min calculation and when you get really tired you can’t count. but it will all depend on you.

Depends on the pace, environment and conditions...

But most importantly... just use it for the placebo effect.... when you feel like you "need it" - then klap it back and convince yourself it's WORKING!!!!

On 60km's you should be taking it 30min-45min into the ride, and you only need one.

Personally I can't stand the gels. They spike you just too high and don't last long enough.

On long rides I prefer to use a slow release low GI energy supplement and good old water.

+1. And something proper to eat - possibly with a bit of fat and/or protein. Also found that most gels didn't work very well with my stomach.

I just suck the moisture out of the air for hydration purposes and for a quick burst of energy I absorb the rays from the sun and turn this into energy.

On hot sunny days I have to wear sunblock or else I will easily win any race. This leads to complications later as when I need to provide urine samples, the urine almost always dissolves the container.

So, awesomeness also has its drawbacks?

60km? One small bottle of water. What ya need a gel for?

Your point is valid on road. Off road, your small bottle will go very fast.
