" No matter what African country you come from, your parents or grandparents would have somehow been impacted by the white people. The whole continent is still recovering from mass kidnapping, forced labour and the collective degradation of human dignity."

Bit of an idiot if you ask me!

Not that I have ridden in one but what I have read on here about the Cm's appear to be nothing like how this journalist has told his story.

He seems a little fixated on colour and our past?

The reporter is is just trying to stir the pot, and hopefully somebody will take him on, and then VOILA! Instant story / controversy.

Just let the idjut fade away in peace. Ignore him for the troll he is!

He seems to be one of the doomsday prophets, one of those "it's not good enough" types.

He'll soon be lobbying for CM to employ BEE guidelines on it's rides & getting himself lost in the past and stressed out about stuff (because he wants to suffer for his art and he can prove he knows how to feel as long as it's angst or discontent.)

All the while hundreds/thousands(?) of riders, of all demographics, in all major centres will be having an absolute blast, enjoying the ride, the company and just like Batman, the night.

Was it wrong of him to notice that CM is made up of mostly white people riding through a mostly black area? I don't think he's trying to stir the pot, just reporting on his experience and bringing across his viewpoint.

It's just one person's perspective; however coloured (excuse the pun) it might be by his myopic racial perspective.

First and foremost... If a wannabe journo is going to fill their mass of meaningless words with these hipster instagram photos, he/ she needs to learn how to take the ACTUAL photos first! What a joke.

Then, if you are publishing an opinion on something that you are not fully aware of/ up to speed with/ regularly take part in... Then do your homework before publishing such opinions. Nevermind the CM experience, I don't think the writer rides their Mongoose much... referring to 'double bikes' and backup vehicles carrying 'clutches'. They're out of touch with the broader cycling culture, nevermind the more niche Critical Mass vibe.

I know very little about CM. But, I like the idea and even with my limited knowledge of the topic at hand I know it's a good natured vibe creating awareness for cyclists, not black cyclists, not white cyclists, not pink cyclists (although at CM I'm sure some dress in pink)... for CYCLISTS. Simple.

Take your hidden agendas and manipulative opinions elsewhere fool.

Rant off.

That and another piece have been a topic of discussion on the CM facebook page, I've long since queried their motivations and tone. They're not journalists, they're columnists/bloggers.

While the authors may miss the point of CM, it's clear from most of the comments that those partaking don't.

What grates me most is the condescending tone of the authors, which basically at the same time both patronises the inner city we pass through and lumps a stereotypical generalisation on the participants.

In simple terms, lazy writing where they went with the easy angle.

Thankfully most of the CM response from across the board proves these authors as skewed.
