What terrible news. I am speechless. What a loss to his family and to his country.

Truly sad. I am having a couple of extra drinks to his memory.

I remember screaming like a mad thing at the TV during the Olympics.

I think the whole country is shocked, not only cyclists. We were behind this boytjie all the way.

Terrible loss. Never had the honour of meeting him, but he was a true ambassador.

Sad.

I am sad, befok, moerig, mad, cross, flippen alles deurmekaar!

A hero was taken by an entity that is hated by all in south africa! But yet, they get away with it. Why is it that in South Africa You will die doing what you love for such a senseless reason? Bike Jackings, Killings whilst training... Let the @ss burn who took this legend from the world!!!

My Sincerest Condolences to The Stander Family, Cherise and friends.

Hopefully we cyclists will now stand up and make sure that Burry did not die in Vain.

I just have to take a few hour for this news to sink in. How can this be true. If we as his supporters are so shocked and sad I cannot imagine how his wife, family, and close friends must feel.

I just pray that his death wont be for nothing and that something will now be done by government to put this idiotic killing of cyclists and runners to an end.

Burry, we will truly miss you. Rest in peace and may God give his family and friends strength through this tough time.

How can 2013 start on such a sad note, **** man!!!

We cannot express our outrage adequately regarding the untimely and unnecessary death of Burry Stander, apparently hit by a taxi (to be confirmed) about an hour ago, while riding with his wife Cherise. Our deepest sympathies and prayers go to the Burry's wonderful and close-knit family. This will be the most difficult time they have ever faced and all we can do is pray that they are able to cope with such a loss. Burry was loved and respected by tens of thousands of people all over the world and they will feel the pain of the family. Burry we loved you in life and we will always love the legacy that you have left us in South Africa. You have been our finest mountain biker ever and one of the best in the world. May you Rest in Peace
