During the Youtube commentary of one of the races a viewer posted that the Oracle boat appeared so stable it looked as if it was controlled by computer. The next race commentary was disabled.....

So issue is - was the trimming of the foil controlled by an automated system? Such feedback systems are commonly used in inherently unstable fly-by-wire aircraft to make them stable (ie most stealth aircraft). If so, that seems to be a breach of the rules.

There upwind foiling is where they literally breezed past the Kiwi's, who had no answer.

There is a lot of speculation that the foils were automated but it cannot be proven because the measurements committee passed the system.

ETNZ trusted that ruling but I suspect that was more do to with not wanting to damage the reputation of the event further.

Not quite the fancy stuff you see on TV but we went sailing at Oliphants Nek dam yesterday. Amazing, when I am on the bike the wind blows like crazy, go sailing and its a perfectly still day....!

Had my first sail on a 1970's finn. The boat works you even in light weather. Some cleats need replacing and then I can start learning again. Even though I am underweight, it is still more challenging and fun than the laser.

Good day out on the water watching the cape to Rio start.

Not nearly as high profile event as in the nineties. Supersport have sponsored a boat, but no coverage at all.

Start fixing up a rudder. Playing with resin and baby powder is an interesting experience. Boat maintenance is much more challenging than bike maintenance.

Great reason to buy a load of tools, like a bastard rat tailed file!

If You are fixing maintaining or building PM me for any materials you might need. I work for a large composite manufacturing company who pay to dispose of carbon, aramid and glass fibre every day. if you want to get some free bike or dinghy / size composite materials please get in touch a few Hubbers have already helped with my garbage. I also have out of date but perfectly fine (in my point of view) epoxy resins but i obviously cannot send it.

Sounds like carnage. Haven't followed it before.

Is this normal?

not normal at all, cape town don't normally get umbrellas out in jan.

They did consider delaying the start, but ocean going vessels in a class 1 race should be equipped for such a storm.
