This baggies you refer to...

Are these any other pants than lycra... or are there specific baggy mtb pants?

I have a couple of troy lee baggies, but any baggies will do actually.

am i the only one who is getting a bit tired of reading all these types of threads ,

you know , the my way is better than the whole world and thy shall only hear my opinion or be flamed for not being like me .

Indeed. Lycra and 29ers seem to be the general targets.

Message to Sir Maxxis and the crew. There are some applications where lycra is better and some where 29ers are better.

BANG ***mind blown*** WHOOMP

As a golfer, I understand everything about etiquette. But etiquette evolved, if we stayed in the way Bobby Jones played, we would all be playing with rugby socks, 3/4 pants, a tie and wooden sticks. If I looked like Jesper Parnevick, I would look like a dumbass.

It is about preference. I ride lycra under some baggies. 2 reasons, 1. I need some padding for my HT and 2. I do not like the look of lycra. My riding partner uses lycra only and that's his choice.

Clipless vs Flats. Since I am not a pro or even good amateur., I use my foot now and then, so being able to take my foot off quick helps. Sure I have a disadvantage in not being able to pedal on big downhills for fear of slip off and busting a sack, but that is 5% of my ride.

29er vs 26er, I love my 29er, point. Not because a pro rides it, because I like it.

We follow some pro advise, because, well...... They are the pro's, what they use is usually best, but if it does not work for you, you are a dumbass for using it.

Edit: I'd like to think I now everything about etiquette, but alas, I sometimes fail myself. Sometimes you need to lower your expectations.

Here's my pointless contribution:

Who cares what anyone else thinks. My bike, my kit, my life. ;)

Exzakery , but sadley on this here hub place you will be told your bike is the wrong kind , your kit unaceptable, and your life suxs .

at the end of the day bikes are just the same as some other "beautiful things" MOST of us love

Some are built for speed

Some are built for comfort

Some you can ride hard and not break

Some you have to be a little gentler with

Some will break you before you break it

Ride what you want and what makes you feel like a rockstar when riding it!

The trick is to not care what the keyboard warrior on the the other side of the world thinks about you stuff. Why should anybody give a **** about the opinion of someone they have never met.

Come to think of it...

I ride a 150mm dual suspension 26er with flat pedals and wear baggies.

My riding partner rides a 29 dual xc bike, clipless pedals and wearsfull lycra.

I occasionally mock him about looking like a f@g, and he occasionally mocks me when he comes flying past me on a long boring straight.

Guess it all evens out in the end :)

Actually I've found that to properly enjoy the lifestyle of cycling you should aim to have a bike of every known discipline. It is my intention to have decent versions of:

Road bike (check)

HT 29er MTB (check)

SS roadie (Build in progress)

Downhill MTB (picking up in the next 2 months)

Enduro MTB (Wishlist - Want to save for the Genius 710)

SS MTB (Wishlist)

TT bike (Wishlist for when I finally do an IM)

I certainly intend using the most functional kit for each of these disciplines and already have for the bikes I own!

Guess I'm more of a CYCLIST than a specific type...

To be honest as well in SA we are slowly getting forced this direction my bike importers. Just look at the 26er vs 29er stocks of bikes, tires etc. ......

Good point. I was originally looking for a Trance Advanced 26er frame, but ended up with the TX29er because of stock availability.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I have been guilty on many occcassions of being dragged into these on-line duels, and whats the point really.

Same reason why the accessories sell so well. To impress people you will never meet in the "Boast about your latest purchases" thread.

Ridiculous!!!
