In full agreement with Max Headroom. PPA has been the organisation that has done most for us funriders and the funriders have contributed largely to the growth of cycling. The pro ranks are a small circle. If not for funriders most bike shops would not be around today.

I will not pay license fees to CSA. I would rather just pay PPA for membership.

Not out of context at all.

We live in South Africa, paying through our arses for **** we dont benefit from is the norm.

Expecting a different result is foolish, in all aspects of South African life.

I also thought about this but CSA is difference between cycling being a hobby and a sport. Are they perfect, probably not but as someone who likes cycling I don't mind paying R75 a year so our top cyclists can participate in their sport.

You pay and pay and pay because you accept it as the norm. Maybe try to be part of the change instead of just being part of the problem.

Listen up CSA !

I am just a nobody who wants to ride his bicycle !

If my local club (or association) can arrange safe routes with water tables - or even better new exciting MTB routes with water table support, so I can go ride till I'm pooped - that is perfect, I pay my membership fees. Once a year world cycle fun ride around the cape - perfect

So, NO - I don't want to pay licence fees to CSA ! NO, I don't want to contribute to their admin costs, salaries, or sponsoring anybody (no offence to the pros)

I just want to sponsor myself, my local association which arranges events for me and my own life enjoyment - I just want to ride my bike without having to pay pay pay for things I don't benefit by.

I have seen very little from the CSA that benefits me - ie. Road Safety !

I'm a selfish guy - live with it !

This strikes me as odd. You want to ride your bike. No problem, ride your bike. Actually ride it where you like, when you like.

But wait, you want to ride in a race, that is organised, so now you have to pay. That is different to riding your bike. It is your choice to belong to a club, to enter races. And there are loads of apps were you can prove yourself against others, world wide nogal. For free!

If you are selfish, go ride your bike. But stay away from the races then. Simple.

Okay. Agree. But screw CSA is what he's saying which is what affects us as cyclists on this cycling forum, and in the context of the thread he's gunning them not the rest of our lovely(sarcasm) country.

I think this another topic on it's own. CSA on the other hand.... Well ?

PS: if there are any Americans reading this, Africa is not a country!!

well now - finally someone posted an incling of sense rather than just complain!!

I am purely stating the obvious, I am not making excuses for CSA or PPA. In this whole saga, I only see one loser.

Who here on the hub has time to "donate" to cycling as a sport in South Africa, and what would that person do to facilitate change?

there is a whole thread dedicated this ppa vs csa debate. In reality the thread should have geographic IP filtering and be visible to those in the cape, cos in reality if you are not in the cape it means f all to the rest of us, and is now actually costing me money thanks to the PPA lawyers taking it to court.......bo hoo you have to pay an extra R30 to ride the argus - thats is like the price of an ounce of lube - really people!

But who will pay them nice big salaries and support their drinking habits if we did not contribute ?

Support their drinking habits so that they can drive drunk and ride us off our bikes? Not me, no Thanks!!!!
