Heroic stuff, shaper

Thanks. For my first argus was determined to finish no matter the pain. No pulling power to join any groups so was just the course, the wind and determination! I will be back...

I nearly got caught in that L group accident, have never braked so hard before in my life. One moment gunning along to keep the average speed up, the next moment bodies rolling on the floor and bikes flipping in the air.

I was so scared that I was going to ride over the guy on the tandem that crashed infront of me, they were literally sliding and tumbling on the road while I had my back wheel locked out and bike sideways, only just managed to stop in time and unclipped standing on top of the bikes scattered infront of me. Thanks to the riders behind me for stopping in time as well.

To be honest I didn't pay much attention to the casualties, first thing I did was looked at another person's back for the emergency number and called for an ambulance, then started pulling bikes out of the road. This was also the first time I had seen so much blood before in my life, a ladies face had a good amount of skin taken off, the rest was all a blur of bodies in the chaos. Waved frantically to slow down the next group coming along at a speed.

Hope all those involved recover swiftly, and get back on their bikes after recovery without discouragement.

On a lighter note, I managed a 3:31 for my 2nd Argus ever! I have been cycling for 2 months over a year, and intend to break that 3 hour wall next year.

Awesome of you to stop and phone for help, and still manage a 3:31.

Thanks buddy.

So no one from the Group "E" made a Sub, at times i felt we could have gone better.

Happy with my windy ride.

I agree. The one minute gap between B & C was stupid, no surprise that they caught us at UCT. The first 50km of the Argus is seriously the most sucky and nerve wrecking ride on the calender for me by far. Happy that I was able to work my way to the front of the group after Simonstown and stick with them for most of the way after the split at Smits, only lost them on the Chappies descent but I think I juuuust managed a sub-3, or maybe one of those unlucky buggers with a 03:00:01 time - so waiting for the racetec results with baited breath...

2nd lap - Wind was definitely a bigger factor for the backmarkers, wind felt stronger and there are no groups to hide in, everybody ride their own pace. Struggled until Simonstown as the legs were dead tired after the first lap - didn't exactly pace myself earlier the morning. Felt better after resting at Jubilee square and enjoyed the vibe & wind at the back on the second half. Saw a few instances of shockingly bad bike handling skills and one or 2 a$%eholes aggresively chasing their sub 5 or second lap screaming abuse at people not getting out of their way quickly enough.

Yip, had to work by myself the entire race after starting in batch OE, not fun in that wind. I seemed to attract people sitting behind me though.

I think most people that are doing it in the lower groups need to be better educated on the road. I ended up doing a lot of braking because of folks just wandering all across the road without a care in the world and what was coming up behind them.

This being my first Argus, I'm already amped for next year  Will need to be better seeded, that's for sure.

Second lap started in OE, found the development riders were the biggest culprits of the wandering and deviating. We were helping pushing people up smits and the lady in front had to jump on brakes and get off bike due to a development rider taking a 90 degree turn right and then stopping in the road :o

I found everyone on both laps very chilled this year compared to the last 7 or so. Except in A group going up that ocean view climb, some guy shoulder barged a tandem, think he knocked the Mrs on the back of bike. Not sure the cause but was off the racing line. He got plenty of abuse thrown at him.

Ractec is missing both my times. Hmmm I know I missed a lot of mats in between start and finish ones, maybe that's throwing them off

I found this as well, the Songo guys in white kit on MTB's as well as a bunch of guys in green kit that caused an accident going into Simonstown. They where all over the place.

Had a lovely outing in Z. Finished around 4:20.

That guy on his MTB towing "Anita" brought tears to my eyes. Very special.

And then to the guys on their unicycles - HUGE respect!!

And to the guys with SS - lots of respect.

But then a gripe - the loading procedure was a shocker. Last year was bad, but today was really below par.

The guy towing Anita was a monster. I finshed with him, as I was also riding for the Chaeil Campaign, and that dude was dropping me like a hot potato on the flats. Was good motivation for me to up my game over the last 5km, as I was not going to be dropped by a dude towing a trailer.
