1 lube and 1 lube only... Purple extreme... true story.. the end

Remember to lube the INSIDE of your chain, try and not lube just before you ride but instead straight after you clean you bike after you ride or the night before you ride (lubing just before you ride basically makes everything sticky)... Seriously, lube works only as well as you allow it to, so clean your chain properly, clean your cassette properly and if you follow this simple advice you will find that most lube on the market works, you were in fact, before now, just doing it wrong

Good luck

Silicon is not a lubricant

Nor is Q8

And to OP - use car engine oil regularly (its non static too)

(flame suite)

Not car oil, when I used it the chain got greasy and "gunked" up fast.

Automatic transmission fluid (same as hydraulic power steering fluid) is what I use.

The question was as a general lubricant. The web states that " Q8 is designed to protect rubbers and plastics. Q8 waterproofs fabrics, acts as a welding anti-spatter spray, and is excellent as a lubricant."

Just trying to find out other hubbers' experience, if any. Youtube has a short information clip on Q8.

On the container it shows the following information.

Thanks a lot for all the replies. To singlespeed guy, where can i look for the purple extreme and what is a fair price to pay for it. Also if someone knows if WD 40 or GT85 are avail locally.

Squirt lubricant, available at your LBS. Only lubricant we use on our bikes.

Pity...

I used this stuff at Joberg2c and was scraping the crap out between my 11t & 12t gears becasue they were useless due to all the caked up squirt mixed with dirt. I swore in about 5 made up languages and 2 other hubbers bore witness to this. Maybe its great for a road bike but not for a MTB.

Changed to that purple stuff and have never looked back or needed to re-lube on a ride.

Thats me experience

MTB or road bike?

I use Motul C3 Off-rad chain lube. It's for dirt bikes, but I reckon if it can handle things like Romaniacs, Erzbery, and MX racing, it'll be fine for my MTB.

What lube you use is not as important as how often you clean and relube.

I use the following and mix and match:

Powasol Green Mamba Lube

White Lightning Clean lube

3-in-1 oil / sewing machine oil

If I don't have anything else, I use WD-40, but this lasts only about 40-50km.

After every ride I wipe down the chain with a towel and relube.

Once a week I remove the chain from the bike, soak in paraffin or clean green, rinse clean, re-install and lube.

Keep the chain clean and lubed. Amen

Ah man you are stingy - dont even share your lube with me! Or it must be so bad and thus why you always steel mine.

I am actually doing some investigation into the lube side of riding. I am now on my 3rd type and plan to report back when I have 4 different ones tested in different conditions. I will compare: wet, dry, dust, mud, cost, time lasted, dirt build up and ease of cleaning.
