Just relocated from Gauteng to Cape Town. Maybe it's a good time now to give the ol bike a goos once over to make sure that everything is clicking and clacking when the weather clears up. ;)

Welcome to the Modder, uhm, Mother City.

anyone got a any idea what the conditions for the Idealfruit race outside Villiersdorp on Sunday will be like ?

We are in grabouw for the weekend, also wanted to ride that idealfruit race, but it has been raining serious monkeyballs all night. It is proper flooded and still raining and windy. Perhaps if I race tm I'll have a chance to get top ten, if only ten ppl show up in the rain

I don't think you should worry about the trails. There is nothing that you or anyone can do that has not been done before, or that cannot be fixed.

Find a gap, expect to be dirty and have some fun!

Looking out my window right now and a diving suit might be a good idea if anyone wants to ride up there today ..they should also be advised that they will probably need to replace all their bearings afterwards as well......

While I understand the concern for the bike parts, you should know that this is also the weather that memories are made of.

In 7 years on the same bike, in plenty of these kind of days, my drive train did not really suffer any premature wear. Sure, the sand on the chain wears cassettes and brakes could suffer if abused but bearings are sealed and it's only when they're submerged that the seal is compromised. Stay out of the rivers and

keep rinsing down to a flow, not a spray and you've pretty much mitigated the damage..

I have several crazy friends who will also testify that these components are built for the rigours.. where do you think my hub name stems from.. it's a spelling error in a text to meet these guys on just such a day and I remember it well!

I'm with you on the suit :)

If you own 3 pairs of gloves, 2 pairs of booties, 2 pairs of arm and leg warmers, 4 cycling shirts, 2 buffs, goggles, put them all on and go for a ride. Don't worry about your bike, it'll be fine, it doesn't feel the cold or the wet.

Ps. Perhaps today even warrants wearing 2 pairs of your wifes' undies under your cycling bibs?

Pps. Today I'm not straying further from the fire than I need to fetch another bottle of port.

Ppps. But tomorrow morning team Pain or Shine starts its' official DC training, so I'll be out there, dressed like above, except (maybe) for the wifes' undies.

You know, I've just realised there is no facepalm smiley..

I braved a trip on the road bike yesterday and went down klein vissershok. While I coped fine with the murky water and a bit of a cross current, what I didn't bargain on was the size of the bow wave from the oncoming car which left me soaked (rain jacket, booties and all). Ended up getting caught in the downpour which came in a short while later anyway but it was a fun outing.

Don't listen to all these nay sayers.

Just go riding. I have ridden up there every day except one this week, my bearings are still fine and I haven't died of hypothermia. Short sleeves with a sleeveless wind breaker does the trick just fine thank you....

Go and enjoy yourself. Its worth it.

Just make sure you give the bike a good clean afterwards

Do it.. go now

Yeah, but remember, you're a single speed guy and they're all related to Chuck Norris. ;) :D
