ThaStig Posted September 18, 2013 Share Cape - derived from the latin word cappa; meaning loose, hooded garment worn over the shoulders.August - named after Augustus Gaius Octavius Caesar; who incidentally loved wearing capes.March - the favourite month of Caesars The founder of the cycle tour loved Roman history especially Augustus Caesar and the tour used to be run in the first week of August(spring time in Cape town back in the day). The name Cape August came about through his love for history and a play on words. Then due to global warming etc August became very unpleasant for road cycling and the tour was moved to the end of summer, co-incidently to Caesars favorite month, March. The title sponsor is the newspaper called the Cape Argus. If you had entered the race you would have seen the correct name. A bit of advice. Perhaps you should consider getting new shirts printed.
