Why would the organisers of the Cape August call it that when the race is held in March?

Or was the race originally held in August?

It is a good question and I have been wondering about it as well.

I'll follow the thread and hope to learn the answer.

Ja it is the same thing with the 95.7 in Joburg

Why do they call it that when you actually ride like 98km's??

Maybe its because its a different distance each year and it will cost too much to change the signage every year. :whistling:

Cape - derived from the latin word cappa; meaning loose, hooded garment worn over the shoulders.

August - named after Augustus Gaius Octavius Caesar; who incidentally loved wearing capes.

March - the favourite month of Caesars

The founder of the cycle tour loved Roman history especially Augustus Caesar and the tour used to be run in the first week of August(spring time in Cape town back in the day). The name Cape August came about through his love for history and a play on words. Then due to global warming etc August became very unpleasant for road cycling and the tour was moved to the end of summer, co-incidently to Caesars favorite month, March. Cape March didn't sound so good so they stuck with Cape August which has a better ring to it, don't you think?

I don't get the Hub's hostility.

I mean, we get the Durban July, Cape August and Margate December. Is it so far fetched?

This is kinda embarrassing. We sent this design to the printers.

I would say extremely embarrassing! Because now anyone who wears the shirts will look a little bit silly.

P.A.K - have you actually been onto the events website? You should have seen that it has nothing to do with the month of August. The title sponsor is the newspaper called the Cape Argus. If you had entered the race you would have seen the correct name.

A bit of advice. Perhaps you should consider getting new shirts printed. And next time make sure of what you want printed before sending it to the printers.
