Excessively high resting HR

My missus (yep, she's real Karma) used my HRM this morning. My HR varies from 80 (about 40% of max) to 190 (104% of max). I had just used my HRM, so from what I could tell it was functioning normally, but when she put it on (and she even has a pulse), it was showing 240bpm! This was before she climbed on her bike.

My assumption is that the monitor is reading a double pulse, maybe it's being worn too low down or something? How can I fix it?

I have found that happens especially when operating close to other electronic equipment. Used to happen to me in the gym with my old Polar and also when in the car and holding close to the radio.

So pending that that is definitely not the issue check batteries in watch and belt.

Get her to pee on a stick.... your life is about to change... :)

Jip Also think that it is probably to loose, or not enough moisture. Ladies might not want to lick it before putting it on(Disgusting).

But also if you maximum heart rate is 185 , it means it can not go more than 185 so if you reach 190 it means your actual Max HR might be 190 or even higher.

Is it one of those silly textile (fabric sensing strip) straps or the plastic (hard plastic sensing strip)?

Those textile straps can be finicky but if that was the case you would also see the same when you wear it.

Suggest you make sure its wet enough and adjusted tight enough.

For some reason (2 reasons actually... ) women suffer this problem more than men. The strap interface with the body might be suffering from a bad connection due to load interference from above.

A polar rep told me that you can also wear it backwards i.e. the sensor across your back if you have fit problems on the front.

The reason I don't wear a HR Monitor, readings were strange.

So now, when I can't breath I take it easier, and if I can hold a conversation while riding, I know I am not working enough

Hehe that's a pretty good method, but usually if you cant talk then its a good indication, cant breathe is a seriously good indication.

Try wearing it back to front, I always wondered if it would work.
