I can give feedback on shimano shoes

since I bought them, around 5 years ago - still using them. Only changed cleats.

Most the stuff I bought from Mr price broke in someway or other. I have not tried the shoes. I guess I am asking - is cheap nasty ? Similar to your question.

I use them am quite happy so far. First pair the metal plate inside sheared, but was swapped out without a problem. Have been using them for quite a few races as well as weekend rides and weekday training. Have not had any other cycling shoes, so cannot compare.

Mate used them at sani this year and had no complaints...the piece of sh#t Scott's I bought to replace my shimanos on the other hand are literally falling apart ....never again

Have a look at Olympic, pretty decent shoes and good price.

Olympic the biggest lot of crap ever bought!!!! Couple of my friends bought them and then I bought a pair. After I bought mine, my friends shoes packed up one by one.....and eventually mine as well. The sole separate from the shoe itself!

Rather look at the First Accent, looks like better quality!

In my experience anything that's cheap will feel and perform cheap. Cheap doesn't always mean bad, but every time you wear them and see someone else's nicer, more expensive kit you'll end up wishing you spent a bit more the first time. I have zero experience with proper cycling shoes (bought my 1st pair this morning. I ended up buying Specialized sport mtb shoes for R1160). I will be taking them for a ride tomorrow... But I would seriously recommend that you rather wait a bit longer till you can fork out R1000 for a nicer pair that will probably last you for a few years!

I have the Olympics and so far they are lasting very well. Only complaint is that the soles don't grip at all on rocks when you have to carry bikes over big rocks. The soles are made of a plastic type substance. I had a look at the Mr Price (Maxed) shoes and they look ok, plus the soles are rubber, so they should have better grip. Might consider them for my next pair, or definitely something with grippy soles.

In the R500 to R750 range there are quite a few decent shoes. My Olympics cost R550, lasted me four years and still usable as a spare. First Ascent, Shimano also have a few models in this range. I'd save up a bit and buy in this range rather than go for the cheapest. Unless things are really tight I tend to avoid the cheapest of the cheap, because they'e often that cheap for a reason.

The shoes are for my girlfriend that just bought a bike, I am supplying the shoes. Tried on the first ascent ones but so far the maxed were more comfortable. Still looking though. I have used answer, adidas and northwave( my favourite). Saw these, they didn't look to bad and was wondering.

Thanks for the feedback
