Local can suck it!

Ordered at 12:00 on Wednesday from Pro Bike Shop in France.

Delivered in less than 48 hours.

Faster than what most of the SA online retailers can do something and cheaper. Even with duties and shipping being quite a bit.

Local... Never again :P

What did you order? what % saving did you get vs Local?

Bars and pedals. 40% saving before shipping and duties. 8% after. Would have been more with a bigger order. But... The less than 48 hours to my door is what made it worth it.

How about the link to the French Connection ??

Maybe there are more of us who are getting tired of being ripped off >>> please

There should be no duties on bars/pedals. 14% VAT and some clearing - normally works out about 15.5%.

Online rocks for convenience and cost but there will always be a place for the LBS.

Edit: Doh - I forgot about shipping. My bad.

Ja right . My first order from CRC also took two or three days , the second one took 4 weeks , the third one only a week , this last one after 4 months assumed missing . First on-One order arrived one week , 2nd and 3rd order missing .

I think you were very lucky!! that's all...

<10% saving in the end?? That's borderline for me...

hahaha. excellent, another that feels the same!

but i wont go as far as to say i'll never go local, but i do avoid CWC like the plague. took zero accountability for a delayed package (ireland to my doorstep was quicker) that took almost 3 days from a place less than 50km away.

Was only VAT and clearing fee yes. I still fully support my LBS. Spent quite a bit at Linden Cycles on Tuesday and International Trade yesterday.

Some things you can't get sorted online.

CRC has been slipping due to DHL and Parceforce. PBS uses UPS. Consistent shipping. Hold-up is normally at customs due to incompetence.

Problem with the local guys is that they don't keep stock and rely on the accuracy of their suppliers' stock lists to keep their sites updated.

This results in massive issues when ordering and items are in stock. Still waiting for a refund from Buycycle on a fork I ordered last week Friday. Their site showed stock, their supplier didn't have. They only informed me of this when I enquired why the order is still "processing" 3 days later. Poor service.

Yes the exchange rates aren't quite in our favor at the moment but I don't mind paying a little bit more for good service.

I don't know about the rest of you but I only order at CRC if my order makes it to the "free shipping" level. If I don't have enough on the order I email free friends and am up to free shipping within hours ;-)

I have only ever ordered using free shipping and after ~20 orders I've never had a problem. I had one late parcel but that was during SAPO strikes.

CRC and the rest of the online stuff can't be beaten on choice - I like "different" stuff and dabble with SSer/MonsterCross bikes so a lot of the stuff I simply can't find in SA (or I'd have to phone 10 shops and get the ususal "we'll phone you back with a price bollocks).

Day to day stuff and some specialist service stuff I get don locally. Everybody deserves their place in my wallet.
