Is a Sub-3 really a Sub-3 . . . .

Getting a sub3 also depends on what group you are in at the start.

I had the ability to get a sub3 this year but did not materialise,

as I found there was no groups that formed around me.

This is key, as you find yourself doing most of the work alone,

and having to constantly overtake slower riders,

who do not have the riding sense to keep left.

I'm happy with the 3:20 I got, but will re-seed next year if not happy with my group.

Paying the extra seems to work wonders for your riding ability :whistling:

No sorry you are wrong, its only from a sub three in the August that you get to wear kit like this (chicks version is all I could find)

Pity they don't sell it to only genuine sub 3 finishers - I was going to buy mine until I wasn't even asked to prove I had done a sub 3 - at the Argus Expo nogal

Exactly.

That what got me thinking - the top T de F contenders generally build themselves a team with the express purpose of making their own lives easier for the majority of the race - until the last 2km of a climb or whatever. Riding in a bunch is without doubt a percentage easier than going it solo. So, if it is a percentage easier - and I belive anything up to 30% is possible, then does it count as a "personal" record?

Of course it does. It just means your record is much faster than if you were TT racing. Tactics, drafting, sucking wheel and helping when needed are as much a part of the enjoyment of road racing as trail skills are in MTB. It isn't always the strongest cyclist who wins technical MTB races.

Who really cares about sub 3s? Isn't a sub 2:45 or sub 2:30 where the real bragging rights are?

Your talking A Bunch talent here. If I was able to stay with the C Bunch they would probably have pulled me to a 2h30'ish.

Anyone below 2h30 I think is a machine!
