CAAD4 Posted November 7, 2014 Share Would it be good to stay at Monte Casino? How far is Monte Casino hotel from the start? Please help!! Very good. You could probably also keep your 100k Dogma in your room.... Carpediem, Skubarra, Odinson and 1 other

HBO Posted November 9, 2014 Share So what is the feedback from the MT bikers. Where is the best parking area (Purple, Orange, white). Are the roads tarred from the parking area's to the start? Since I'm planning to be there at 4h00, I'm not so worried about the traffic getting there, but more about leaving. After having a tough race I don't want to sit 3 hours in traffic just getting out. In terms of this white or purple might be the safest bet. How is the hospitality area? Dirt or grass?
WrightJnr Posted November 9, 2014 Share No, its not tarred. I read somewhere the organizers suggesting you bring an old pair of socks with to put over your shoes as you will need to walk to the start. Its a building site still. Us mountain bikers felt tight at home. I do think the roads are going to be grid locked next week for parking. MTB race was fantastic, easy parking, organized starting pens, great route. Good luck for next weekend. awesme
vgb Posted November 9, 2014 Share Would it be good to stay at Monte Casino? How far is Monte Casino hotel from the start? Rather stay at the Indaba hotel. Cheaper and a lot closer to the start. About 3km.
Sven137 Posted November 10, 2014 Share Getting in was easy most probably everyone was there already .. Problem going home Towards four ways traffic jam started basically at the entrance to past Broadacres, you could see the line of cars a couple of kilometres long and the opposite way easier apart from the 3 dead robots in Diepsloot
awesme Posted November 10, 2014 Share ohhh People are going to cry getting in and out next week, might in the taxi's deciding as usual they don't need to wait and going on the left into the road construction sections, or straddling the road/bike sections... awesme Posted November 10, 2014 Share I'm thinking it might be easier to turn right out of the parking and rather get anywhere you want to go via the N14, don't try and leave by going back towards Monti. G

Wyatt Earp Posted November 10, 2014 Share Are you all ready ?They guys who reckons that this new route is going to be as comfortable as the previous years, I say think again.Pooks Hill/Mnandi road is a continuous 2.6 km. climb. From Crowthorne to the highway is a continuous 11 km. drag. And that is just the start. We saw many people out on those roads yesterday. And just because Mondays are Fridays here goes. The chick with the MTN kit who decided it was a clever move to go through a red traffic light with a fast car approaching the intersection with no intention of slowing down for you, I hope you make the start on Sunday. Then same said club who decided that red means go, seems a little housekeeping is in order, no wonder some of their members think their nuts should be polished with Brasso. They weren't the only offenders, the big bunch we saw as we headed back home about to hit the Kyalami climb, a group of roughly 25 or so with their fearless leader screaming "cleeeeeeeeaaaaar" they were in green and black kit. No wonder the motorists hate us so much. Wez-O, Long Wheel Base, Escapee.. and 5 others
LongDonkey Posted November 10, 2014 Share Info from colleague : Kiddies race exit was a nightmareAfter MTB Race, left around 10:30 roads were empty. Parking lot however was completely packed, have a feeling it got busy around 11 to 12 ish. Feedback from others might help. Ride to race from Fourways was OK. Dodgy section which is narrow is between fourways and Leaping Frog Centre. Be careful there. From Leaping Frog down to Auto and General offices at river was fine. 3 lanes of new tar. 2 dodgy narrowing sections as they have not finished taring and small detour (10 m) around entrance to Dainfern. Plenty of stones, but NO POTHOLES (yet). Some of the gates at Fourways Mall only open at 6 am, so go in at entrance next to petrol station at Woolies side. PS, dont leave timing chip in car as it is a waste of energy cycling back to fourways before race to fetch it...... StevieL
TALUS Posted November 10, 2014 Share There will be mud. There will be traffic. There will be hundreds of backmarkers pushing their bikes within the first 10km. There will be crashes just before and directly after the Steyn City gate/guardhouse/fort wall. There will be flared tempers when trying to leave for home. I was there and I saw the future. I am considering MTB cleats and shoes. Bat and marinusg
awesme Posted November 10, 2014 Share Little to no mud, a nice water crossing behind steyn city, just what was needed for the feet, they could actually have included more wet feet crossings. only lost my temper semi once with a @sshole. we all waited for the guys in front to just get 50/75% over the bridge before we went so that we could ride it, ... ride like a taxi driver, did not wait and came past and pushed in, just to get stuck on the bridge. heheh just grinned when we still finished before him. GI am referring to the parking for the Road event since it is very likely that we will have more rain before Sunday. The MTB thread is in full swing elsewhere.
