What an amazing day on the motorcycle. Today is day one of a four day moto-camping trip with my son.

It may be elsewhere but please spare a serious thought and/ or prayer for Joey (Dakar) Evans' daughter Jenna who was involved in a horrific car accident through no fault of her own and is literally, as I read it, clinging to life in a really desperate situation.

Thanks - it's been a bit of a challenge.  So much was worn or rusted that I didn't really have a choice not to replace - so the budget has been blown right out the window.  It's scary how quickly the costs add up.

In fact it started itching the day my Harley was sold.

it's odd hey - I've joined a DT forum in FB which is predominately UK based and there's a huge demand for the earlier 175MX - the prices are crazy.  When the guys saw my 175 they were a bit confused because I'm not sure they ever got that model in the UK so they weren't really sure what it was. When I told them they were still available new a few of the guys were very keen to bring some in.

 

So who knows - maybe one day I put the 125LC, the 175 and the 200 in a crate and some guy in the UK who is DT mad will snap them up!

As it stands though, I have again over-capitalized.  It will never pay me back what I have spent in ZAR.  But then we don't buy these things and restore them to make money!

I think the emissions controls here will prevent them from being able to be licenced. My gamma was imported in 2018 here but it was made in 1983 and thus is judged on 1983 standards and not 2018 standards. 

 

Them 175's will go for about 4 grand in good condition more or less and the values are only going up. I am sure that if you were looking to sell someone would buy them in the blink of an eye. The market ffor old bikes is insane. Not all models but certainly the DT range is gold here.

That's interesting - a good rule of thumb is that if you sell a bike overseas you can only count on about 60% of what you get for it actually making its way into your bank account - so assuming 4k I would probably only get 2.4k out.  But multiply that by 18 and it does make sense - because the demand in SA is very low so it's not going to sell here for R30k let alone R40k....
