Andymann Posted September 10, 2017 Share Scored a real winner - there is a guy who lives in George who used a race a genuine Velocette Scrambler in the 1950's in Rhodesia. For some reason when he sold the bike he kept the tank and it has kicked around his garage all these years. Last week he saw on our FB page I was building a replica so he sent me a message and said if i paid the courier fee I could HAVE the tank.....It arrived on Friday.... Did a bit of panelbeating and will drop it off with my painter this week. Not even going to change the colour. And the white stripes will also stay! Andymann Posted September 18, 2017 Share So not a lot of visible progress - one of those weekends where you work your ass off and the bike looks less complete than it did the previous weekend! There are some pics of the cam and cam follower setup I mentioned last week - someone has put in quite a wild cam way back when, so I have no idea how it's going to run, or what the valve timing should be! At least I have a front brake! Fire Engine, Ed-Zulu, Lexx and 4 others

Skylark Posted September 18, 2017 Share That's one of the challenges with building up a non runner, you never know what surprises await when you get it complete and ready to run.
Andymann Posted September 18, 2017 Share That's one of the challenges with building up a non runner, you never know what surprises await when you get it complete and ready to run.Trust me it's bloody frustrating - Velocette changed so many things from model to model that hardly anything is compatible - and now we're mating an early Engine to a later gearbox to a frame that shouldnt have either of them in. And all I had was a basic engine, a gearbox and a few cycle parts - no clutch, no Ignition, no chaincases, not even a carb. So who knows how it's going to run. Given though, the work that someone has done on the conrod, valves and ports. With that cam, I think it's going to be pretty wild. I am busy with an Aprilia RS125 and while I don't have your sort of hassles, it has turned into a frustrating affair.I must say though that at the time I bought it as a not so good but running bike and half the fun is just being in the garage and tinkering. I have bought SO many tools too which is always a good investment.Keep going, it will be worth it all in the end. It is looking good. Steven Knoetze (sk27) Posted September 19, 2017 Share hey you cant brag about an RS125 without pictures :-) So I have completed the top-end build on the bike only to realize one of the crank seals is leaking and that was the compression loss. The original piston looked good, it on has just over 7500km on the bike.Battery packed up which is normal I suppose for the bikes age but otherwise its a nice little machine.Has a full Bosson exhaust on now too, just don't have pictures of that.Getting a seat kit today so hopefully that will be sorted soon and I can get around to riding the bike in. Bought it as a trackday bike but might put it on the road or sell it to fund my other bike that needs some loving...... Andymann Posted September 22, 2017 Share We've got our annual Velocette run the first weekend of October, so i figured I had better get my other bike sorted. Fitted the Electronic Ignition I bought a couple of weeks back... Lexx, Fire Engine and Wannabe
Andymann Posted September 22, 2017 Share Took a few days leave and tackled the last big headache of the Scrambler - how to convert the RHS rear brake from the DT to the LHS rear brake lever mount on the Velocette Frame. Solution: An old Banshee gear selector shaft suitably modified, an IT490 gear lever, some bushes, and a few evenings work on AutoCad designing a gear coupling. Turned out pretty well I think.... I'll finish the lever part tomorrow Captain Fastbastard Mayhem, Ed-Zulu, Wannabe and 1 other
