Prescription riding glasses

I wear multi-focal glasses permanently. I need glasses to see both near and far. However, when I ride my bike (road and mtb), I wear non-prescription sunglasses. So, everything from my Garmin to the road sign and the cutie alongside me are all a bit blurred.

What is the best solution to fit prescription lenses into a cycle glasses frame?

I have tried the adidas evil eye with inserts(personally the brand is poor, one drop of water and the lenses peel) but you tend to have some blindspots when looking from side to side as the insert is tiny.

I had my optician suggest some frames I could use with prescription lenses and they added polarised tent to them. Works a charm

Adidas' have a sport range of glasses that besides changeable lenses/clear to filtered ..has a removable set of prescription lenses which get made up to your prescription.

I am on a second pair of Oakley RX, multi-focal lenses. They are fantastic. The are pricey but worth every penny.

The addidas system does not allow for peripheral vision and the lenses are generally lower quality.

PM if you want more details.

Rudy project has the option of clip on (cheaper in the long run as you fit "normal" lenses to the clip when your scrip changes) or prescription lenses.

I'm using Oakley RX, agree they are expensive but they are superb. The best thing to do IMO is to just go to a good optometrist, ask them what sunglasses frames they will be able to put your script into (not a big curved lens) and have them made up. I had the Rudy Project ones. They were heavy and the insert scratches the lens if/when it rubs.

I think Rudy Project can help you. You need to locate a optometrist that can assist you in sport wear sunglasses.

Here in Kimberley, we have a Sport-in-Sight that sells Rudy project.

Most oakleys can take prescription lenses... thats what i did

edit And it was cheaper to use just a regular pair of oakleys sunglasses and fir some lenses, than using a specific aport range

I use Rudy Project Magsters with the clip in lens. I have 2 sets and 3 different sunglass lenses from, photo chromatic, red, tinted. this combo suits all situations.

I had Rudy's made for my Rydons. A shop in Sandton City ordered them. They basically send your prescription to Italy and then you get back a set of prescription lenses. It was the best set of glasses I ever had.

Ps. I had laser surgery to fix my eyes, so now the lenses are useless.

If you can wear contact lenses you get Multi Focal contact lenses as well now. Contact lenses were the best decision I ever made as I'm very nearsighted.

Tried contacts - couldn't get used to sticking my finger in my own eye  Maybe time to HTFU??

I have Rudy Project prescription lenses which were awesome for the first 3 years. Now I can't justify the money to update the prescription, and things are not as clear as they used to be... Just be mindful of the future expense with the full prescription lenses from Rudy.

I must say, that while my prescription was still correct, it was fantastic having the full peripheral vision.

I wear contacts as much as i would love oakley rx my glasses tend to go into my helmet when i climb and on the eyes again down of flat riding so it will only be a 50% help. Iff you stick your finger in your eye you are doing it wrong... ive had contacts bumped out of my eye on the hockey field and had them put back with a little water... iv also blinked out contacts on long decents where the eyes tend to dry up.

Why dont you get those contacts that you sleep with? they shape the cornea as you sleep and when you wake up you have 20/20 vision and no corrections needed for 12 hours

I use Oakley with prescription mulifocals. For rainy days I use a mulifocals one day use contact lens. I know multi focal contacts sound odd but they are pretty good. Don't like glasses in the rain.
