Watched Midsommar last night.

Despite really enjoying Hereditary, this movie from Ari Aster really feels goofy. People are crapping themselves about how unsettling it is, but I struggle to agree. There's a few creepy shots and sequences, but it goes full Nic Cage 'Wicker Man' in the 3rd act.

Watched Ad Astra - I wasn't sure what to expect and that's probably the best way to watch this movie. No expectations.

If you had to compare it to something I guess you could call it a noveau splicing of Gravity and The Martian, with a bit of lighting and sound from The Arrival. It was gripping from the start, Brad Pitt as the stable, unflappable astronaut holds the center together while the universe around him is literally crumbling. His inner musings kept making be think of Fight Club.

It was thought provoking and entertaining, even a little shocking at times. Highly Recommended.

Hearing great things about the Joker movie. In these days of overblown CGI, this has been praised as an absolute masterpiece.

I quote one viewer's review, and please don't rely on media reviews of this movie:

"This movie causes the audience to consider many topics on morality, particularly the poor choices made by the Joker. The Joker is more relatable in this movie than antagonists usually are. I think this gives a more realistic view of "bad" people, who are not usually 100% bad in all ways as society often judges. It is important to know when to sympathize with the Joker (towards the beginning of the movie), and when he needs to be identified as a threat (when he begins making certain bad choices). This movie is only suitable for adults who are willing to pick it apart and think critically about it. It isn't for light amusement. That substance is what makes it so good.

If you aren't able to ponder underlying themes on your own, and you have to be handed all your thoughts to you, then this isn't the best movie for you."

Saw Joker last night.

Utterly brilliant. You get glimpses of the joker that would eventually come to be under Heath Ledger, and I imagine that when I watch Dark Knight I'll have a new appreciation for another immense performance.

It's dark, it's gritty. But most of all, it felt real and entirely understandable from his position. And that makes it all the more concerning. Gets you to think. Properly.

The descent into madness is not a stairway. It's a rolling country road that comes down from the hills to the sea.

Very dark indeed.

The way Gotham City is portrayed in the cinematography - grey, damp, hopeless

And JP delivers a masterful performance in the lead role.

Don’t go watch it if you don’t have stamina ????
