August Winds - Training

Yup this year they are on Q here in Gauteng. This morning the wind was howling and thank my behind I was not cycling. Doing my usual route would have seen me very late for work.

Hill training has it's benefits, right. How beneficial is it to train in wind. Seeing as time is limited I know that my distance will go down in the next few weeks if it continues to blow outside.

Wanted to do my 130 km tomorrow but fear that dream might just fade away when I wake up tomorrow.

How do you guys handle the wind and training.

IDT is how i do it.. wind scares me .. and it's hectic here atm and because it's so flat here there is no shelter from it

But when I do ride in it.. I make damn sure I stay behind hubby.

I hate riding in the wind at the best of times, but you won't be able to choose the weather on race day so you might as well get used to riding in the wind.

Just see it as additional resistance trianing, and remember to keep your mouth closed for any flying foreign objects in those strong gusts of wind...

Ride out with the wind and have someone pick you up where you finish

I still want to do this one day when the Southeaster is blowing blue murder. Ride up the west coast road as far and as fast as I can go and see how far I can get in 1 big go. Then phone the wife to come and fetch me.

Hi Alex,

We have some ugly wind here in Ladysmith as well. I don't mind it because you only battle 1/2 of the way.

I just select a nice low gear and spin my way along. My feeling is that even a bum outing is better than no outing at all.

Have a great weekend

Good point.!

It's always easier to ride into the wind early in a ride so try and plan routes accordingly.

Tailwinds back home are great.

If that is the case, why does it always seem to blow in your face in The Argus?
