I spoke to a friend of mine and asked him about Probenecid, he told me that you will find it in more stuff than you can even begin to imagine.

It gets used in the same way as Caronamide, both get used in some drugs to prohibit renal excretion and by doing so it increases their plasma concentration which prolongs their effects.

Can be found in many antibiotics and as a "cheat" to boost whatever else they manufacture.

You can add it in antibiotic treatment, but I cannot think of any such combos. If probenecid is added too a pill, such info must be added on the label.

Correct, and how many antibiotic leaflets have you read though to see what it contains ?

My guess, and I am now guessing like most of us here.

Daryl asked for the bicarb and maybe also explained that he wanted it to limit lactic acid build up .

The pharmacist could possibly have taken the initiative all by himself and said "I will get you something that will really work"

He then on his own accord decided to add the Probenecid, and his logic was that he was boosting the effect of whatever else was in the capsules and then his further logic was that if it used to neutralise uric acid ,then surely it must have the desired effect.

My bet is that Mr. Apteker has not had the balls to stand up and tell the real side of his negligent story.

But this is mere Fanta Sea.

Spooks where there are no spooks....

According to the 2014-MDR and MIMS, Probenecid is only marketed by the company, ASPEN, as 500mg tablet, with the tradename PROBEN.

Not combination tablets with probenecid is on the SA market.

One will take this for gout or it will be added as an adjuvant to certain antibiotic regimes to boost the antibiotic plasma concentration and delay the excretion of the antibiotics.

As said earlier, not often use, mostly used by specialists in hospital settings. Most (not all) (no offence intended at doctors please!!) GP's would have to think back to their study days if you ask them about it.

I find it hard to believe ANY pharmacist would be such a moron as to give a Schedule 3 drug to anybody without them knowing it.

Enough to ask you to share your info on what antibiotics are spiked with probenecid routinely.

Go do your own homework .

I am not here to entertain you, neither am I here to be put under enquiry by you.

One common one is Tamiflu and other common Probenecid carriers are penecillin's.

This is not about did DI take an antibiotic that contained Probenecid, this is about the drug itself and under what pretences would he have used it the "improve his performance as an athlete"

My question is why a drug that has little to zero value would end up in his system firstly, secondly why has nobody else been caught with traces of to in their system.

I gave DI the benefit of the doubt as I said not on an emotional basis, but rather looking at the facts surrounding the case.

Not the "where there is smoke there is fire" voodoo BS that most people subscribe to .

Well now finally this, Impey has been vindicated and most people have the decency in them to accept that, now why don't the naysayers actually come forward with facts instead of speculation that sometimes borders on defamation.

It's you guys who are doubtful, so I guess the ball is now in your courts.

Thanks Benjie, I will look out for them.

It's not very different to the speculation and doubts about his vindication.

Well done on the google hate mud.

That last sentence I find interesting.

Fill us in as to what you then believe really happened.

Some of us have tried to apply a reasonable amount of logic to the case, not merely "I am not buying it"

If you are not buying it, bring some sort of decent and reasonable debate to the table, or even easier, be happy for the man.

It is really not that difficult to share others success and victories with them.

Sorry Dr Google

I have a package insert of Tamiflu (antiVIRAL) in my hand. (Batch F0113B05)

It even states that the printing on the capsules is done with ink containing shellac, titanium dioxide and indigo carmine. Sadly no youknowwhat.

Probenecid (in pill form) was added in treatment regimes to procaine penicillin(intramuscular)

And go back to 2009 when they drug was running in to shortages ?

As I said, we are not debating what contains what, but the validity of youknowwhat itself, seems like you actually don't really have the answers either.

I have now made it quite clear why I will give DI the benefit of the doubt, and that was based on the uses and the effects of Probenecid itself, you have decided to turn it in to a totally different debate that will get no closure either.

The bottom line for me, what did Probenecid do for DI as a pro cyclist and why would have taken it intentionally ?

I see no reason why he should have done so.

I will be here in my camping chair Dr. Goodbadandoubting

Firstly it's not a PED

Secondly it's a recognised masking agent

Thirdly others have been found to be using it...as far back as Pedro Delgado

Your defence of your man is admirable but there is doubt regardless of the finding

This debate is like wrestling a pig in the mud. Eventually you realize that the pig is enjoying itself. Let it go I reckon

Anyway It was great seeing him on TV this evening. Always liked his mom and dad and his brother. Decent caring people. Glad it's coming to an end for all of them
