Performance enhancing substances among amateurs

Kayle, my man, it didn't come back positive for a banned substance. Your test came back positive for seven banned substances:

Raloxifene: SERM

Ostarine: SARM

Testalone: SARM

Anabolicum: SARM

Andarine: SARM

Ibutamoren: Synthetic growth hormone stimulant

Endurbol: Watered down EPO in pill form

This **** head knew exactly what he was doing. ******* puke stain.

[Edit]: Long wheel base, the personal reasons he took this stuff is because he is an A-type personality on the wrong side of 40 and his body is slowly weakening and he didn't wanna say goodbye to racing in a dignified manner.

Reading this thread from the first post was quite interesting indeed.

Why was Wyatt Earp banned?

Edit: banned from the hub i mean

In short? Because he wanted to karate somebody for telling him that he was making parental mistakes.

Last night stopped at Dischem.

I am battling a horrible flu and the cough is not getting better.

Asked the pharmacist what is good and he gave my wife the latest and greatest (what he probably get the most commission on).

I quickly ran it past the interwebs SAIDS.

FULLY banned in and out of competition.

Thing is....as a Vet that races every now and again for fun and being so gatvol of being sick I was actually temped to take it.  My OCD and morals took over so I am back on the normal stuff.

Point is......if I, as a part time fun rider, can know the difference and checks, so can most of the guys out there.

The little bit that's in the flu medicine will not boost performance. You would have to drink box loads full too see any performance gains. Pure anabolics in tablet or injectable form is a different case

Doesn't matter, it's enough to break the rules. Spinnie did the right thing ????????

A tad off topic but.... you could try dosing yourself with loads of probiotics? Typical 9-strain capsules, kefir, etc. Probably cheaper than normal flu medicine anyway.

It could be absolute blind luck (in which case, touch fake wood table), but my wife hasn't been ill since we started her on lots of this (June-ish). She has an autoimmune disease, and the mere mention of a cold leaves her with bronchitis or pneumonia - last year it managed to strike twice in a single month.

Correct.  It is not about the enhancing of performance.

Not even a Spanish steak will help me get faster.  ;)

IF they test you, you'll be positive and all the stigma and crap that comes with that.  Just not worth the risk.  Not on amateur (or even SA sportman) level.

Nope.

Will have a look.  I think there are some in the cupboard but it might be very old.

I was taught you only drink probiotics when you take antibiotics?

Oddly enough, given the current thread, it was an article on Bicycling ("Is poop doping the next big thing") that led me to reading up some more ....

Various articles tell that a large part of the immune system comes from a healthy gut. For example:

Indeed, gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT) is the prominent part of mucosal-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) and represents almost 70% of the entire immune system; moreover, about 80% of plasma cells [mainly immunoglobulin A (IgA)-bearing cells] reside in GALT.

So I figured its worth a try, seeing as her immune system is clearly compromised. Probiotics daily, plus the water kefir (slight hassle to make, but worth it IF it helps keep wifey healthy).

For a flu you probably don't have to go that extreme, nor long term.

If I remember correctly, antibiotics don't only kill the bad bugs, so you take probiotics with it to protect your system?

I know you say race, but do you race or do you participate ?

I know for a fact that if they tested me as Mr BackMarker, I would be Dq'ed foreva! Mostly from caffeine or maybe some alcohol remnants, possible pseudoephedrine, maybe a pain killer or three. Technically, I should not be on the start line. But in reality I am just along for the ride and placement does not mean a thing.

A more interesting question would be what stuff would I take/not take if I was chasing my 6 - 7 hr PB's.

RESPECT !!

Knew a gent that won a stage of the Rapport tour back in the day.

Got to the wrong side of 40 .... before proper testing was common place .... said goodbye to a long marriage, and a second one ..... all to try and be at the top of the vets for a few more years .....

SAD when "winning at any cost" turns a once respectable person into a drug addict.

Interestingly it takes a metric **** ton of caffeine to breach the limit as laid out by the NCAA (which I think is currently the only sporting body which treats it as a banned substance - but I might be mistaken).

In order for the NCAA to take action you would need to exceed 15 micrograms per mililiter of urine. Which approximates to 8 cups of coffee within the 2 hours preceding testing.

OK please excuse my absolute ignorance bordering on stupidity here but do they test your average Joe doing a race for the experience and a bit of fun? Those nowhere near a podium and happy at the back. I kind of presumed they only test the pros etc.
