The Effects of Dopamine... Cyclists vs the Rest

There seems to be a vast difference in the attitude and outlook between the average Cyclist and the average Doggist or Horsey Type whilst they're out pursuing their various pursuits.

As a MTBer, I pretty much always manage to get a rush of dopamine coursing through my system when out on the bike, and the more I push the more I get. I am never miserable while out on my bike.

In comparison, Dogging (and sometimes even Horsing) are pretty sedentary, non-dopamine producing pastimes and, in the case of Doggists, are chores that are often undertaken grudgingly - the owner has to walk the dog. So when these disparate activities collide (as they regularly do these days), we're usually on a completely different plak from each other.

So spare a thought for the moody buggers, we can't all be Cyclists  :whistling:  :D

Riding something that has a mind of its own as is bigger than you (horse) does not sound sedentry or non-dopamine producing to me....and walking the dog is rather therapeutic imo

:D But ja i like your line of thinking

Why do I suspect you don't actually know what "dogging" means.... :) :)

And quite possibly "horsing" too.... see definition 2...

So does that mean that cyclists are all having dopamine withdrawal when off their bikes?

This could explain unnaturally high aggression levels here on TheHub.

wasn't there a thread about some guy going out cycling and ended up dogging .... couple out having some extra dopamine while out on their ride?

Yup! Happened to somebody,s brother in law in the WP .His swaer always returned sweating from his Ride with clean tyres and no dusty brow .So he got suspicious and followed him

I think there is some confusion about the difference on this thread between Dopamine and Endorphins. Endorphins is what we cyclists become addicted to and the more we ride, the harder we ride, the more we get. It creates a sense of euphoria, a "buzz"! Dopamine is more of an emotional feeling that comes about from a rewarding experience!  Both combine to confirm a great ride on a bike! Emotionally and physically!
