That's my problem, I am a huge football fan and will miss out !

No. If you're a football fan you are WELL catered for. I use a thing called TVTAP Pro (Install it on your android phone to test) for live sport and there's kaaaaaaaakloads of live football on there. Magazine shows etc etc etc.

For regular tv there's netflix which costs a fraction of dstv. Even the local netflix is streets ahead of dstv.

You can get a Mygica (Android box) for around R1800 and install all sorts of good things on it. Mine has youtube,TVTAP, netflix, Redbull TV, megabox HD (for skollie movies) etc on it.

If you have a smart TV then you don't need one of those little boxes.

I truly wish SA Rugby & Cricket would tell DSTV to get Fked and sell the rights to Amazon or Youtube.

IMO DSTV is nothing short of theft.

I'll see your football, and raise you cricket ... zzzzzzz

Cricket I can still do, on the odd occasion, now and then even some F1 gives me a thrill, although of late hamilton is a pain in the ass. Even ladies tennis from time to time, but soccer?..nee wat, hou verby.

  • 2 weeks later...

DSTV is a rip off. Not worth R100 bucks. All the repeats and old shows made me sick.

Got fibre and switched off DSTV. Don't regret it  and don't miss DSTV for one second!

There is LIVE NET TV APK which you can download. Has a lot of sports streams. Watched the last 3 international Bok games  there as it was streamed via one of the Channels.

DSTV can kiss me goodbye forever unless they come up with much better options.

lekker! I see there is an article doing the rounds - think i saw it on mybroadband - regarding the possibility of more subscribers ditching DSTV in 2019 if they increase their subs...

this is funny AF... i can see DSTV going down a similar path to SABC, only difference being SABC is a SOE.

They are already dead. They just haven't got the email yet. They are already splitting the profitable vs non profitable aspects of their business.

If their business model was based on anything but monopolized exploitation they would have been able to anticipate and adapt to the changes in the market. Instead all they've done is try to squeeze the lemon a little harder. I say **** them. If you can't adapt you must die.

Netflix is also going to die off. IMO The future of television is monetized YouTube channels. The good ones will thrive. The shitty ones won't. Live sport will be Pay Per View based on a Youtube style platform.

Do you know why I would miss DSTV. When you're just bumming around on the couch and you need background noise. So you put on some slightly interesting cooking show or nat geo program and watch with half an eye. Times like that I don't want to have to apply my mind to choose something to put on.

agreed, subscribe to a few channels and BOOM sorted. I know what he means though by background noise and so on. I found that now instead of it being background noise, it ends up being something i actually WANT to watch.

Bu I agree, the old model of selling package deals at silly prices is dead.

And as long as there is a Matrix, we will have Neo's of the world setting content free so the rest of us can stream it for free and stick it to Agent Smith.

Do you hear that Mr Andersen?
