Spinnekop Posted July 5, 2016 Share Thanks.. I do feel its quite accurate, based on performance at races and TT hillclimbs. I plan on doing an FTP at someone with a PM on a trainer to see how close it is. once i got that comparitive, I will know more or less the zone im in and can just work accordinglyRather try doing it out on the road. Not indoors.Real life numbers are worth way more than what you can do in the "lab" My 2c

I'd think the FTP test and the training should be on the same equipment. Be it a bike or a trainer.

But then again....you don't race on the indoor trainer. (The tannie at the gym next to you does not count as a race) Frosty
Frosty Posted July 5, 2016 Share JIp....... But then again....you don't race on the indoor trainer. (The tannie at the gym next to you does not count as a race)but if the tannie is there to kuier, then she has to climb off the watt-bike, unless she knows watt she is doing. But, ja - if one has a PM on the bike then it makes sense to train on the bike. Spinnekop
Bicycle Supply Chain Posted July 6, 2016 Share That's a big gap I run power on both my bikesThe variable terrain affects my pedal stroke which renders different numbersCould that be it?What bikes do you have. My stages on my road bike gives me 30-40w more than my training mountainbike. My road bike is a modern stiff carbon frame. my Mountain bike is a steel 853 frame. lots of flex. Kona Kula Posted July 7, 2016 Share So.. The magic 5wpkg+ What do you guys think a person would require to achieve this? You will have to be at your optimal weight for a start. Can't be carrying any extra kgs.
usxorf Posted July 7, 2016 Share So.. The magic 5wpkg+ What do you guys think a person would require to achieve this? However, the strongest, most reliable correlate of FTP comes in the form of Chronic Training Load - with a near linear relationship between CTL & FTP at least up to a CTL of ~150: CTL of 50 ~= FTP of 3.5w/kg, 100 ~= 4.0, 150 ~=4.5. Edit: not volume, or intensity, but CTL. Edited July 7, 2016 by usxorf
