Depressed after exercise

I don't know if I am alone in this, but after a ride/run I feel great for about half an hour then get very depressed. This is worst after a race, I feel on top of the world and very "euphoric" and then bam, I feel horrible. I feel like I want to start crying. Has anyone experienced this?

Just after exercise or do you feel "down"on other days as well? If at other times as well then you need to think about clinical depression.

If just after exercise think about your blood glucose (sugar) level -  try ensure proper nutrition after riding. This would make sense why it is worse after races rather than regular training.

I am so hyped after a hard workout - i am barely home and then i am thinking about going out to do it again....

No depression or down feelings at all.

Yip I have as soon as I get to the office and cant be out there anymore on a weekday ;)

Seriously though, nope exercise makes me happy happy. Yes there are days when I am maybe a bit more tired after a really hard session but it still always makes me feel good.

I get depressed after a ride when its time to wash my bike, and my muddy shoes, helmet and gloves.

Seriously, I have felt down a few times after a ride, and have realised it has had a lot to do with not getting enough sleep in the few days before and just battling to recover.

ever herad of endorphins??

Why do you think anyone would subject themselves to ~90km of running in 11hrs??

It's very much an "adiction" like with sythetic drugs...only, this one is human made...

What Cassie said here is true, I know some one that likes to....."pop one" when they go to clubs, a day or two after they become very depressed. The brain releases endorphin's when having a good work out, after the work out stops your brain needs time to replenish the stock levels and that's when you feel down.

Or " researchers found that between 2.5 and 7.5 hours is optimal -- participants who exercised more than 7.5 hours a week had reduced feelings of well-being and poorer mental health than participants who remained in the optimal range. If you're feeling depressed after your workout, it's possible that you're simply overdoing it."

Must be honest the only time I feel 'depressed', if I can call it that, is when I haven't ridden for a few days. Anyway then my wife chases me out to go ride :)

Yeah my wife is slowly realizing that Tokai being off limits at the moment impacts the whole family, something to do with me being a grumpy old sod if I don't get out and about there three or four times a week.

Depends which "mate" I am riding with, if I'm with the fast ones(most of them)

Then I feel down

When I'm with slower ones(very few) then I'm a rock star

I'm not even allowed to ride with you...

@OP: Go see a doctor. You need proper advice, not people giving you a guesstimate.
