Windowlene with some elbow grease and a mtb glove on ...

I actually fitted a pair on Saturday, with this exact method... (the gloves really do help)

4 hours of riding later, they haven't moved and are perfect.

Compressed air!

Clean bar of any grease/oil. Fit first 3cm of grip onto bar. Fit end of air nozzle under edge of grip between grip and bar. Push trigger - grips slides on easy peasy.

Get them off the same way.

5 second job and they grip like poo to a woolen blanket.

I do it the same way.

Alcohol, is essential for this operation....

What you will need:

1) set of ESI grips

2) Sixer of our favorite brew (if doing major work...if only fitting grips, 2 will do nicely)

3) Your wife's aerosol deoderant

First, open your first frosty, take a biiiig sip. Savour the flavour while looking at the can.

Then:

Take wife's deoderant...spray the bar nicely as well as the inside of the grip...quickly slide on....sip beer.

Now:

Inspect work, looking satisfied while finishing off first beer.

Once first beer is empty, proceed to first step as explained above for fitting second grip.

Important: Replace wife's deoderant after operation...when asked why new grips smell so nice...plead ignorance....

In an ideal world where everybody owns a compressor.... I suppose they could always use their 2lt tubeless bottle bombs..... :whistling:

1st prize, compressed air. 2nd prize, a tin of hairspray or windowlene (would be cheaper and easier for the average DIY'er).

Everybody should own a compressor!

Good for:

Fitting ESI grips.

Fitting tubeless tyres.

Making a cool gun out of a hose pipe and ball bearings.

Check car tyre pressure.

Blowing up balloons.

Cleaning air filters.

Oxygenating fish ponds.

Cleaning wood working equipment.

Drying anything quickly.

I can't believe not everyone owns one - it's worth it for the hose pipe cannon alone!!!!

Put a couple of zipties (8-10ish) in grip... slide over bar (with ties spread out between bar and grip) ... remove zipties one by one... bob's your uncle

Makes it a swine when it comes time to remove them doesn't it?

'spirits!!! Just use a screwdriver   something to separate the grip from the bar, pour in a little bit of the purple stuff and start wiggling.

Cable ties.

After trying rubbing alcohol and windowlene failed I spaced out a bunch of cable ties and slid it on no problem, then just pulled them out afterwards.

anything spirits based works a charm, gloves and a bit of elbow greece. Also good for cleaning them as well, makes them quite tacky for extra grip...
