Progress update . . .

After 18 odd hours of driving, 931 miles (1489km) travelled, one sleep-over in a bed & several 30min kips in the car, 2 packets of biscuits and three bars of chocolate, I arrived at our solicitors offices in Huesca on Wednesday afternoon for a 4pm meeting with our conveyancing solicitor Susana, our translator and friend Soledad and our new "tax and business advisor" Antonio. All went well and then it was an hours drive from Huesca, via Macdonalds and their free internet, to the apartment we've rented in Ainsa, 4km from our village of Guaso.

Since then I've been to our bank and activated our Spanish bank account cards - happy to see we still have some money in the bank - and had a good meeting with our architect Pedro Miguel, who has come up with a really good design plan for our house

When I arrived it was sunny and warm Two days later and it's snowing! It looks beautiful but it feels a bit cold. Thankfully the apartment is warm & snug :-)

I do not know you guys but have followed this with interest, good luck with your Big Adventure!

+1 on not knowing you, but amazed at someone making such a massive change to their lives. All the best, may it be a huge success. Some of us can only appreciate Europe from pictures. Enjoy the adventure

I am looking at the Pyrenees too, also such diverse locations as, Hungary, Cyprus, Wales, anywhere that I can buy a small pad to use as a base for hiking/biking once a year with a view to holiday rental the rest of the time. A dream.....

First day of work completed at the house today!  :-)

And by "day" I mean afternoon, and by "work" I mean gardening. And by "gardening" I mean cutting back brambles . . . but it still counts!!

And I made a friend . . . this guy has barked at me the last three times I've arrived at the house, but today I had food and he suddenly became my best friend!

Thanks so much for the offer. It is a beautiful region. I am looking for a place that I can visit a few weeks a year with a view to full time living when the kids have flown the coup, so to speak.

Not sure about size of place yet, and frankly not sure of which country, but the missus is well keen on that region you guys are in.

I will keep your offer in mind!

When you start looking you can pop in and I'll show you around, but there are great places all over Europe so you might need to do a 3 month tour. ;-)

Nearly a week of weed and bramble clearing and I'm starting to make headway :-)

Once the ground is clear I can start planning and laying out the garden.

Normally you wouldn't do a garden before you did the building but in this case I can start organizing the garden furthest away from the house while the builders are still busy preparing quotes etc for the actual construction work. Plus I work for myself for free and the garden is all I can get on with for the moment.
