Fairweather Riders

Hi Hubbers!

So, the COLD is officially here, and morning rides are becoming a 50/50 decision. Cyclists who prefer to "hibernate" during this period are labelled "fairweather riders".

What's your opinion? Do you embrace the cold and ride? Do you prefer to go out (much) later and face traffic?

Which side of the fence are you on?

I quite like the Highveld winters. You can ride later in the day without slow cooking, trails are dry and for me its only really June and July that can be wickedly cold...but I am the type of person who just wears two pairs of shorts when its cold....!

Move to Durban.  We only stop riding if the temp drops below 9 degrees!  And that doesn't happen too often!

Been going flat out 4 - 5 mornings a week so far this year.

I hate winter and I hate cold but when I enter for races I don't have a choice but to get out there and train. Besides if you have decent winter kit the hardest part like spinnekop said is getting out of bed at 03h30. But if I don't have a race to motivate myself for I generally just lie in bed awake from 03h30.

Total fair weather cyclist, if it gets cold I go do HIIT at the power studio a.k.a. pain cave.

If it was up to me and I had a shyte load of money, private covered, climate controlled velodrome, training come rain or shine. Hey but that is only me.

just ride your freaking bike in the freaking most horrendous weather you can find and stop complaining.......... you might just have one of the most amazing ride experiences yet.

Anything under 15 degrees is unacceptably frigid here ;)

So glad for the beach circuit - I can get a quality 60km ride every evening under lights so no need to get up early.
