With the lead out train he's going to have I don't see guys like Greipel/Kittel/Bouhani/Viviani getting more wins than Cav in 2016.

They'll have to choose their races wisely though (not all finishes suit him)

Exciting stuff!

He had a great lead out at Etixx.. he is just not as good as what he used to be..

But if he is bringing a big sponsor with that that can secure the teams future for a couple of years it will be great. Also worried that it will lose it's African feel but suppose it is what it is.

I agree that it will lose its African touch, It will be seen as Team Cavendish by most.

The nostalgia of an African team is over and this is now business, if heavy weights such as Etihad are considering taking up the title sponsor and bringing big names, then this is more about what is going on behind the scenes and in all probability signifies MTN Qhubeka will be given a world tour licence and not wild cards.

Etihad would not even consider a wild card team unless they have a good idea of where the licences will be handed out.

Maybe they will keep the Qhubeka... but doubt it as that is tied to MTN.

whats wrong with trying to keep the team african, knock around in the 2nd division (or pro conti as its known now) and develop some more meintjies etc to get into the world tour???

So with all the news about Cav & Mark & Bernie, all joining the sprinters and classics type guys already at MTN Qhubeka, now we can appreciate that Louis' move made perfect sense and can't be questioned now. The team was obviously heading in completely the opposite direction to where he's going with his career.

Or Louis leaving has resulted in this new direction for the team? Losing the rider with the most potential to make this African dream team a viable reality

I don't know, just guessing like the rest - we don't know til we know, you know...

Also not overly excited at the prospect, but from Dougs view, it's pretty much a no brainer, takes his team, his product, to an even higher level. Top 5 teams in the world?

On a positive must be the end of Farrar too :whistling:

Hope they at least keep the Qhubeka link and still try recruit local talents

I don't Louis leaving would have influenced the direction Doug wants to take. Number 1 mission for Doug is the survival of the team when its becoming increasingly hard to find continental or South African sponsors.

I still maintain Louis left simply because he was offered a better more secure opportunity at Lampre. Doug's future wasn't necessarily hinging on Dimension Data either since that wasn't panning out like he wanted. I think Didata will still be on the shirts but they would be much happier having someone else carry the brunt of the teams running costs since being a SA based company their sponsorship would need to involve an open cheque book with the rand on its slippery slopes.

Overall I think Middle Eastern sponsorship is about as secure as they can expect to attract at this time.
