Just watched Super Cycling. He said they want to eliminate the fact that when entries open, you see they are open, talk to the family and decide to go, but then by tomorrow when you want to enter they are sold out. That has to be one of the stupidest comments ever. You decide before the entries open that you want to ride and wait for entries to open. I really think this new system is utterly ridiculous!

he said it is designed to give everyone a more equitable chance. Nothing stupid about that

I also thought he had a tough time trying to motivate the new system. The reasoning just did not make sense.

Since it's Friday I'm just going a bit off-topic  :offtopic:

Just swapped my Sani2C entry for a W2W entry. Which seemingly was the only way for me to get one.

For 2 of the 3 Sani2C/W2W events the organisers didn't even open the entries to public and for the other one there is one helluva waiting list.

So unless you know someone with an existing entry they are not going to use it is almost impossible for a new rider to get into either race

I can just imagine that there will be a lot of people out there who would prefer a lottery system for w2w/sani2c over the current one where existing riders hog all the entries for themselves.

Yes, you want to reward your loyal customers but to the extent that it is impossible for new riders to get entries?

Point is - I think this lottery system would be a great idea for Sani2C/W2W...

after visiting cape town last year for the first time as a tourist (been there on a few work related visits) I drove the route and decided i will try enter just for a fun ride...i just want to enjoy the ride on a closed road...my wife indicated that if i wanted to cycle the route...i should just take the bicycle with when we visit in October next year...it just wouldnt be as much fun.

I will try my luck with an entry this year...i wont be there to race just for fun to experience the route and enjoy the atmosphere and scenery.

By the comments i did read it seems there are lots of people who do it for the race and lots of us wanting to do it for fun...pity they cant separate it and have it over 2 days...day one for the serious riders and day 2 for the fun ride.

Any idea what the ratio is for race to fun.

Anything resembling a sub-3 means you're a racing snake. PERIOD. Anything over means you're a funrider. Kapeesh!

That means less than 2.5% racers, a fraction of all them wannebees sporting lycra clad boeppies and expensive carbon machines pretending to the thrown of the "real racers"

That is exactly the right spirit. Ones' first Argus should be enjoyed as a celebration of cycling the most beautiful bike route / race on earth. The day when bikes rule Cape Town and its' people come out to cheer and support us. The race and the funride is separated anyway. The racers are seeded upfront, anything after ABC groups should just be a ride. The problem are those who ride further down the alphabet soup and are deluded into thinking that they are in the race. Closing the road for 1 day only is about all that is physically possible with Cape Towns' infrastructure. Some parts of the peninsula get completely cut off by the race and as sad as it is, we'll never get 2 days in a row. Edited by DJR

After last years great success at a short route, probably be a two day event, short day first for fun riders and then the long one for serious guys the next day.

Can't we just accept that we all ride for different reasons...some wanna race...iro where they rank...be it against a buddy or their previous time...some just wanna ride and enjoy the scenary. ..or spend time with family etc....and of course there are the pros....bottom line...it doesn't matter and no one has the right to tell you it's not a race...or a fun ride. ..it's what you make of it or want from it...my 2c...☺
