Stretch Posted May 14, 2017 Posted May 14, 2017 anyone watch that bit about the old lady breaking the world half marathon record for her age group on carte blanche. Really cool! 'Kaze Pete and Andrew Steer 2
SwissVan Posted May 14, 2017 Posted May 14, 2017 I have not been running for a while now, because I felt guilty as my wife couldn't due to expecting (and giving birth to) our first born. A month after our little one was born we did our first run together in 7 months. It was awesome running with my girls Joh isn't it a bit risky running off road with the little one? fanievb, Lexx, Andrew Steer and 1 other 4
fanievb Posted May 14, 2017 Posted May 14, 2017 Joh isn't it a bit risky running off road with the little one? Bra, this is one of the better roads in gonubie, luckily the pram is tjoepless so the wheels act as shock absorbers [emoji85] [emoji39] Barry Stuart, Lexx, _David_ and 2 others 5
b-rad Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 anyone watch that bit about the old lady breaking the world half marathon record for her age group on carte blanche. Really cool! What a wonderful lady. I hope a company backs here and gets her to some of the other big runs around the world. I read a post on the Modern Athlete Facebook page which said that the Geneva course does not qualify for a record breaking course though and that her run wouldn't count as a record breaker?? ScottCM Posted May 15, 2017 Author Posted May 15, 2017 so it seems i just have a head cold...but i still have my tonsils so gonna dose myself with corenza c and andelix mouth spray this week as a precaution Good luck bud. It seems i too picked something up, either from Saturdays run in the cold or from my two boys who are sick. Making me doubt whether or not i should rather pull out of the Audax 200km ride on Sunday. Will see how it goes time and make the call closer to the time.

She is amazing. Imagine running a 2:05 half marathon a the age of 85!!It looked like a beautiful race to run, will add it to my todo list. I also hope she can find a sponsor, she got very excited at the end when Derick asked her if she wants to do another overseas race. Lexx and Stretch 2
b-rad Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 Erratum Message: Yesterday we posted that Deirdre Larkin of Randburg Harriers broke the 85+ World Half Marathon Record at the Geneva Marathon this past weekend, smashing her own record of 2:12:37 (run in SA in February) with a new WR of 2:05:13. Unfortunately, additional research shows that the Geneva Half Marathon is not a "record-legal course," as it is a point-to-point course with a significant overall drop in altitude of more than two metres per kilometre, so Deirdre's time of 2:05:13 cannot be considered a World Record. For a course to be record-legal, it must be circular (start and finish within a certain distance of each other) and drop no more than the allowable 1m/km. Her performance remains a remarkable, hugely inspiring achievement, but we need to publish the correct facts, and Modern Athlete apologises for the mistake.

Jurgens Smit Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 So I have another noob question, currently I have a pair of inov8 shoes with a 6mm heel to toe drop, but they are almost at the end of their life. What else would be recommended with similar to the same drop but a bit cheaper? The new model of the one I had is nearly 2k and I'm not keen to spend that much on a shoe just yet. 'Kaze Pete 1

Have you kept an eye out on their site? They often have good deals on end of season shoes. I remember picking up some RoadX for R599 from them a couple of years ago.

I also hope she can find a sponsor, she got very excited at the end when Derick asked her if she wants to do another overseas race. My sister ran it and said it was surreal. almost no support the whole way, just running down these open streets. Her words: "it was a very strange experience". Geneva is a very sterile city in one of the most beautiful settings in the world. Lexx, Stretch and Hacc 3
Hacc Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 My sister ran it and said it was surreal. almost no support the whole way, just running down these open streets. Her words: "it was a very strange experience". Geneva is a very sterile city in one of the most beautiful settings in the world. A while back I looked at pricing for overseas marathons. The entry fee for Geneva is R800. Which I thought is not bad at all, if you compare it to London or Boston. Obviously, the accommodation will be very expensive in Switzerland. (R1800 for two people per night)
Chris_ Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 My girlfriend has the small Tomtom gps watch. I'm pretty sure the battery will not manage a 12 hour comrades run.. My Fenix 3 will easily manage it so I haven't given this any thought. Whats the best way to manage pacing? She's going for a finish. Start at the race start and manage pace until it dies and then best-guess on the rest? Or I thought just now, maybe run to a point - say halfway and only start the watch there?
