Bought the 33's last year bud, when they just came out..... I know now that they are selling at reduced price because the 34's are out..

Even the 34's are not R2,000...

RICE:

Rest. (No slogging runs)

Ice. (Eish)

Compress. (You get socks for this, but a good rub also works)

Elevate. (Put your feet up on the desk)

I actually want to buy me some of those Compression Socks.

I used to think they are lame but they help me a lot with recovery. I'm looking for an ankle high pair to actually run in. Those knee high things are to hot for me to run in. I can't seem to find any shorter ones tho.

I bought some when i had a calf injury. To be honest they helped zero...and at 500 bucks a pair...they lasted a solid 10 odd runs before they developed a hole in the toe and now they are uncomfortable to run in.

waste of money if you ask me.

you can buy medical compression socks at a pharmacy for about R70, no logo and usually black, white or brown, but do same job. Don't be conned by R500 socks...

good to know for future scenarios!

Just thinking about it, I'm doing Run the Berg later this year... two stages, 25km's a day.

Had planned to just use my older Asics (they've still got some miles left in them), but should I be looking at trail specific shoes though?

Really don't need/want to add to my shoe budget unnecessarily...

What Barry said...The Kanadia 8's are affordable, good quality for the occasional bush-bash. Your run of the mill road shoe doesn't have a strong enough under fore foot, so you'll get poked and prodded by little stones jutting up. Also the "side walls" are broader giving more foot stability.

Thanks Guys... was really hoping you'd all say my Nimbus would be fine  :D

More shoe shopping, less food... my diet's falling nicely into place

Normal "compression" socks wont do much apart from making you look like Paula. If you want real compression socks you need to get medical grade socks, you get your calf measured to provide the correct amount of compression. They cost about R350 and they dont look like the grandpa ones you buy at Dischem. Got mine from a local Physio.

Since you stay in Joburg, why not go and check what inov8 might have to offer at their store in Edenvale... They currently have a clearance sale going on (unfortunately not online).

Okay, I think I'm getting closer in the hunt for a suitable trail shoe. Tried on the Brooks Cascadia and Mazama this weekend, they look like a locus roadkill but the fit and feel was amazing. Any other guys with experience in these shoes? What kind of terrain have you used them on and how did they cope?

Did you have a look at the new Salomon Sense Ride? Price wise it should be similar, but personally I think it is a much better shoe than the Cascadia.

The Salomon is much lighter, and with the sense fit they fit like a glove. When I tried the Cascadias it felt like wearing bricks. The Sense ride also have the new rocker sole.
