Hacc Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 Couldn't agree more. Race starts have become a joke... On the shorter events I often find walkers, (even some with prams), starting at the front.I always start where I think I would finish, but the culture of running has changed, and become very egocentric. When I was still involved with organising runs, we ised to put signs up (similar to cycling), indicating the projected finish time/pace for that 'starting batch', which did help a bit...I guess organisers will have to come up with creative ways to manage this. All in, I agree with the changeI agree, with you.Usually, the first couple of kilometers are like an obstacle course to get passed the prams and walkers. If they want to change the rule to "Gun to mat" then race organizers should apply certain rules. For example, walkers to start 10 / 15 min later. Maybe also split 21 and 42 runners? That means the start will be less congested. At Johnson Crane they have starting blocks for the different times you are aiming for. I agree with the decision but they should have made suggestions to the different race organizers on how to manage this change. Lexx and shaper 2

Jackes Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 Two oceans entrants... Last year's shirt was smaller than what it should've been. I did not purely go on sizes, but also measured and worked on the cm's in the sizing chart as well. This year I once again measured, compared with the sizing charts and compared to last years (small) shirt sizing and measurements. Is it just me or does it appear that the sizing is bigger again this year. It makes it so difficult to choose your size if it does not stay constant each year. Something that should not happen as it is Adidas each year!

Pulse Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 It's not the culture of running.. it's the self centered culture of society nowAgree... It just feels worst at these races, because there are so many people crammed into the space
Fat Boab Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 It's not the culture of running.. it's the self centered culture of society now Have to agree. Have you ever taken part in a cycle event which doesn't have start pens? I did one earlier this year which was an open road event. Common sense would tell you that the start group should line up, at the very least in the LH lane of the road, and if you arrived late, you'd join the back? Not for lots of people, who either went to the front in the RH road lane, or created a wedge back from the start line in the RH lane. Not a racing snake amongst them, and factoring in the event wasn't timed, why would they adopt that approach? Selfish, self-centred with no regard for their safety or others.....baffling. Andrew Steer Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 Ag, I don't really care about my mat time, or gun time... only thing that matters is my Strava time! Lexx, Hacc, Barry Stuart and 3 others 6

b-rad Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 It's not the culture of running.. it's the self centered culture of society nowIt's such a shame. As much as I enjoy an organized event the starts are becoming very unpleasant. Too many people jumping over start fences or pushing their way to the front to end up walking after 100m. What really gets me is the widebodies who are definitely not going to run at all but are somehow at the front. I have big respect to everyone for participating in an event but lining up at the start should involve some common sense in terms of ability. Parkruns can also be dreadful at the start with walkers thinking they'll break the course record lining up at the front. Chris_, Hacc and Lexx 3

The medium is smaller than my normal small Comrades and previous OMTOM shirts... There were lots of complaints at the expo this year. I seriously hope they get it right, oh and without any spelling mistakes...

I specifically referred back to the 2017 shirt as well, and it does not correspond with the 2018 sizing, so I took my best guess. Hopefully there will not be another surprise come expo day.
Mudsimus Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 Anyone on here that delt with Peroneal Tendinitis before? Ive been struggling for close to month now. Had some physio and dry needling wich reduced the constant pain by 90%. I can run Excately 1.6km on the road before wobbling home. Tested in on the treadmill and the trail, and I can run 10km before its starts getting painful. After a few days rest it feels fine, but flares up quickly during a run.

In some people the tendon pops forward, and becomes more of an issue
Jackes Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 It really is about time that the Two Oceans organizers offer steak and chips along the route, what should we do with potatoes and bananas only? https://aerialspartan.com/two-oceans-marathon/"The only thing I did not like was the lack of food.I was carrying my hydration pack anyway, as I wanted to bring my own food supply. Potatoes and bananas are just not enough for 56km."

Both these issues resolved after PT, but the persistent pain is on my footsole, right on the outer edge.

Sounds like fascial 'tightness'What has worked for me, and thy I still (try) and do regularly:Foot massage, or 'rolling' for a kind of fascial release - similar to rolling on a foam roller for ITB etc.Strengthening up the foot muscles.Lifting toes upwards when doing calf stretches.Loads of balance/proprioception exercises - standing on 1foot/on toes when brushing teeth with eyes closed is an easy one Mudsimus 1
