Great advice, I’ve got plenty of miles in the legs and while I’m still running quite well at some point I want to crank up the running a bit more and tick it off the list. I’m just not sure it fits with other challenges but I may just get an entry and see what pans out.

Thanks

With it being payday for many tomorrow, I expect the last of the entries to be gone by the close of business most likely. You can most likely sell your entry later on if you do change your mind. Entering also gets the ball rolling and your mind ticking over with plans - so it's good to get it out the way and commit to lining up on the day. If you've got a good running base there is plenty time to work/build up towards it.

Good luck, enjoy the journey

Advice please for a newbie.....I started running about a year ago with two 5km runs a week. Sometimes a bit further and some weeks 3 times. Weekends are for cycling.

This past weekend I did my first 10km race and finished with a time of 1:02. I see it as a start somewhere. My question now - I want to become faster - a lot faster. My aim is to do a 10km in 50min by end of January. Will this be possible and what training must I do to achieve this?

Here is the link to the training plan I followed, that Stretch mentions below... https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/153222-cyclists-with-a-running-problem/?view=findpost&p=3276030

I'm happy running at 6:00 - 6:30 (min/Km) with race pace at about 5:30, for now. I can recommend this plan, even with a faster pace - the interval of walk/run can be replaced by jog/sprint. Perhaps next year I'll focus on increasing my speed, as this year was all about the base.

Dropping a minute per km in 2 months is a big ask. @Frosty has a real good program he followed for 10km and ultimately 21

Speaking of which...@frosty when is your 21

I am missing my bike.

Once Kaapsehoop marafun is finished, hopefully balance between running and cycling will return.

I'm actually heading the other way... after a calf tear two weeks back ( :cursing: ) - I'm going to be dusting off the bike.

Been having endless problems again, no doubt linked to my poor conditioning, but want to give the calf a proper break, it's been strained for near two months, I soldiered through the Pirates to Pirates 22km and Run the Berg with it, but some action cricket finally crocked it proper two weeks back. I can walk comfortably again this week at least.

Will stick with cycling and waterpolo for now and then pick up the running again in a month or so. Busy putting together my first official training plan of sorts heading towards Comrades - need to build up properly for once and then that will hopefully allow me to train more frequently - going to be pretty interesting to see if I can stick with it

I have a new challenge for myself. Been cycling all my life (VA,VB bunch). Started running in Sept with a couple of 2.5km just to get the base going. Was hell. Knees, ankles did not like the running.

I have now started to up the running, doing 3.7km at 6:30avg pace. I want to try and do a 21km in the near future, (end of the year). Will see how it goes. The plan looks great.

Hey guys. Can anyone recomend a good pack to use for longer distances? Something that can hold 3l of water food etc.

For trail? I have the Salomon ADV Skin 12 Set (i had to look that up..)

1.5l in the back, 2 x 500ml on the front, you can jam a surprising amount of stuff in the stretchy back material.

Most comfortable thing I've ever worn, honestly.

Expensive, as with all Salomon stuff, but its already lasted years without a blemish, and hopefully will keep going forever.

Thanks guys. Ja for trail mostly and the odd long run on the road. I sweat like a mule so I need lots of water. Thats my only issue with most of the vests I’ve been looking at.

I have only heard great feedback about this mountain fun, would you also recommend it?

It's seriously one of the best things I've ever done... we weren't nearly fit enough this year, but we just had to do the Extreme version over the Challenge as the views on day 1 are just not something we wanted to miss... I did post a review of sorts on it here last year. But below a couple pics I took this year that might also whet the appetite. Also really reasonably priced and such a nice part of the world to spend a weekend

We'll be going back a lot fitter next year (although I am sure I said the same thing last year, but in fact did the opposite  )
