How'd everyone go at Johnsons? Weather was pretty much perfect and I enjoyed the route tweaks... ran a solid and comfy 1:56 for the half. Part of me kind of wished I was marathon ready in light of the conditions, but hopefully I'll score some good weather at Vaal for my qualifier...

It was a great day out, the weather could not have been better. I didn't run a great time but I felt comfortable until the finish. First 21km since Kaapse Hoop for me and my nausea was under control. I really like the new route. If they keep it the same I would do the marathon next year.

Lots of trees, zig-zags and not as flat as previous years.

I hosted the club gazebo and from our 20 marathon runners, 17 qualified.

Nice bumping into you Andrew! Only thought about it afterward, I should have offered you a beer  ^_^

PS. I don't know if it is logistically possible, but I think if there are more than 10 000+ runners doing the 21 and 42, they should let the marathon runners (or half marathon runners) start 15/30 minutes earlier. The first couple of kilometers felt like an obstacle course.

Anyone using the Garmin Vivoactive 3? From reviews it seems to be a little better than the 735, plus the benefits of some extra features. It also looks much better, for what it's worth.

Good to see you Hacc, and glad you're on the up with the running again.

Don't worry about the beer (I'm not drinking any alcohol the next few months anyway), but it's one thing our club tent is never short of.

I was definitely a little jealous of the guys who are up to marathon distance already, absolutely perfect conditions.

Next stop Jeppe Marathon

The finish was a lot nicer this year than previous versions. Couldn't have asked for better weather either. Well done on your run and excellent to have such a high qualification rate for the club.

With the start, something that I really enjoy about Maritzburg Marathon is that they separate the two distances into side-by-side corrals. They start at the same time but they only converge after about 500m or so. It takes a lot of the pushing and shoving out of the way at the beginning, especially with people wanting to set off at different paces for the two distances.

There have been a few discussion on the Vivoactive 3, some positive and others negative. DCRainmaker is probably your best option for a comprehensive review.

Hoka's on Oneday only for those that wear them... R1449.

I can't think of anything worse than fighting with a crowd of thousands of runners at the start and fighting for the first few km. Give me a 100 miler any day where from the first meter everyone is spreading out and settling into their own space, or forming small 4-5 person trains.

Are you doing the 42 at Jeppe?

Read all the reviews. Some real world input is always nice.

Yip, will be slow and easy, but just want to get one full marathon in before my Vaal qualifier...

I have also entered for the Jeppe 42km but will only do the 21km no reason why I should suffer for 42km. Training has been almost non existing this year.
