21km possibly canceled and 56km to remain. Less masses, fitter people, further apart?

IMHO they should cancel/postpone everything.

16000 people on the start line is still ludicrous.

Even though it hurts me saying this, but i think you are correct. The Cricket are already canceled everywhere, and now Super Rugby looks like its going to be canned to, because of NZ new Quarantine measures.

Yeah.. Any cross border travel just opens up everyone involved to cross pollination of the virus.

Bringing 5000 foreign runners into Cape Town to run for a few hours is unnecessary.

We must all remember, sport is just that, sport. WE as a species have made it a billion dollar industry. As it shuts up shop globally it will force us to go back to our roots a bit. Doing stuff for fun, spending time with our families etc..

I'm quite certain that something like this will have repercussions for travel protocol, sport etc for quite a while.

A good test of the current level of fitness at ODD this morning. Start was chilly and nice running conditions. 5hr bus was just in front of me and went off at quite a pace, decided not to stick with them and stay on my own sub 5hr pace. The kms clicked by, the sun came out but for me did not become a factor till the last 10km.

Passed the sub 5hr bus around 19km, had a nice rythym and the pace was around 4:45hr but felt good and stuck to it. 38kms I could feel the legs tightening and the lack of long runs done, the heat picked up as the 42km passed and my feet were tired and sore, think will have a black left big toe soon which is unusual in these shoes, will put it down to tired running form. I could feel the pace slowing, it became stubborn determination to keep running whilst many around started walking. That hill to the finish felt never ending and was a shuffle more than a run.

Crossed the line in 4:50hr, so happy, but lots to do before Oceans, if it happens.

Where do you draw the line? On average 20 000 shoppers pass through major shopping centres in SA every single day. Some like Menlyn, Mall of Africa average 40 000 shoppers a day. Why single out a one day event with 16 000 runners?

A lot of shopping malls in Europe have been shut. Restaurants too.

Basically grocery stores and pharmacies are the only places trading in some areas.

Self imposed quarantine isn't 'don't go to work but do other stuffs'...

They reckon self imposed exile curbs the spread a LOT. I reckon there is no line for the immediate well being of everyone. We all just need to knuckle down, stay away from social events, malls etc and accept that Covid-19 is going to infect people close to us.

If Oceans goes ahead and things are still as they currently are, I would definitely think twice about being on the start line.

Too many people seem to be taking the cancellations/postponements personally. It really isn't an attack or a snub on anyone.

Yes it sucks that you've trained, but imagine if you and 16000 people are exposed to the virus which in turn you expose to your ill mom who dies.

It's a very real possibility for someone

Perfect training run at ODD today. Left Jhb at 3:00 to miss the traffic and chilled on the back of my bakkie until 30min to start.

Planned for 4h30min time ended up with 4h34 due to some sillyness down Saartjie nek that I paid for afterwards. All in all great run with awesome friends706fbd7153d69d8a66da39977281edf9.jpg
