I think it will be great for the team when it comes to UCI points and invites etc.It might even better for them than keeping Maincheese on the short term. Maincheese still has a few years before he will be a true GC contender and will need a team formed around him. tubed Posted September 29, 2015 Share An astute signing imo - think he has 14 wins so far this year, including stage 7 in the Tour, I guess if you win one stage in your career you are made, he has 26 to date - scary stat. He is also quite a different rider to the young brash guy - nowadays after the win he is first seen walking back down the course to seek out and thank his team mates - he should fit in well. You cannot compare him to the loss of Louis Meintjies - Cavendish is the real deal. Meintjies has a top 10 in the Vuelta - he is our best local hope no doubt, it may take some years still. I think 2016 is going to be disappointing for our African contigent as these signings are going to be used to amass UCI points and then 2017 I would not be surprised to hear that this is a WT team. With that comes an obligation to attend every WT event and this is where I think the constant race exposure will benefit the Africans in the team who are racing 80-100 days a year with the best in the world.
