And to make matters worse, this was the one day I decided to dress up in my new, all black kit. Helmet the works.....

One of my less brilliant decisions, that.

That truly was a rough day. I got there late and started in the temp group  , friend punctured at the 60km water point and we waited for him to be picked up by the sweeper. He only got back to the finish after 2pm.

And here these pro's complain about Abu Dhabi LOL.

Wannabe, next time tweet Peter Sagan and borrow the white kit  :whistling: ....but hope the white shorts goes missing

That was my 1st ever race and what a way to start your cycling career.

I seriously thought WTF this cycling thing is insane.

I remember cycling with some Wannabee Team guys who were extremely friendly and thought me about working as a group and just sitting in the bunch. Both these toppies did 16 Argus's and told me that they have never stopped at a water point before but that day we stopped at 3.

I cramped so badly as we took the spice route turn @ 90kms and just took 5 mins at that WP. We then carried on and finished together and I was ready to quit cycling just as quick as I started it but those 2 toppies told me I did extremely well for my 1st time. At the time I didn't realize it but it was actually a bloody good effort finishing in 4h38 I think from Temp group.

I will never forget that race in the heart of summer 45 degs in Feb in the Boland with absolutely no wind.

I was forced to leave my 2 boys at Fairview in the shade of the trees and ice from the restaurant while I rode to the finish to go fetch the car

That day it looked like a massacre on the road. I left early to drive home and all along the route there were broken people sitting in the shade. When I arrive home in Vredendal at 12.30 the car's meter showed 44c outside.

Any ideas in what groups some of the stronger DC teams will start from, looking for lekka slip till the end :D

I recall two years ago on this very ride a DC team caught up with me, I was not trying to keep up with them but still got told "don't ride with us we're training". Not knowing what it was about I ignored it and they slowly pulled ahead at their own pace.

Try that again this year, I have some choice words ready for you

Some of the serious racing DC teams want the (team) training, but they usually don't mind if you tag along at the back, as long as you ask and don't interfere with their team dynamics. I understand that they don't want unknown and possibly dangerous riders in their team mix. They are also still working out how fast they can go for how far and who to keep and who to drop at what distance. Others mixing in, makes it more difficult.

Most of the social DC teams don't mind as long as you ask and you help pulling every now and then. Their aim is mostly to start and finish together as a team and their team spirit is great. I have found them a very friendly lot.

After that its pretty flat all the way except for the wind and the last climb on the R44.

I'm yet to find a flat road in the Durbanville/Malmesbury/Paarl area.

And the last climbs on the R44 can be torture. LOL

Good luck to all doing One Tonner, wish I was still living in CT to suffer with you. But its the Bestmed ASG Satelite Classic 106km for me here in Jozi town. May the wind be at your backs and the heat be nothing like that infamous mushroom race in February last year, damnnn that was tough.

No need for choice words. Just suck those &%&! wheels until YOU decide they can train on their own again

Nothing they can do about it...

100% Correct. I paid to enter the one tonner, not ask permission to sit behind a team on a training ride. :w00t:  :w00t:

That only works if your surname is Cancellara!
