They are 100% owned by Santam (since 2010) as far as I know, but continue to operate as a separate subsidiary.

So yes don't expect them to be as good as Santam.

And My bikes are insured with MiWay :/

Oops... Missed the notice that Santam bought out Sanlam. Should pay more attention.

I am with Mutual & Federal. I feel on a rock with my Santa Cruz, causing a tiny  crack in my rear stay where I hit the rock.

Local bike shop gave me a quote on a new rear stay, R8 000. I forwarded to M & F explaining what happened and the money was in my account 2 days later. No questions nothing !!

Yeah, I am with them too and no hassles.

Policy wording under Miway mimovables , sorry still searching for link

It's rather shocking to read, not even close to the product I purchased over the phone. Not even sure if I was insured or just a PayPal

I'm with ABSA through a broker, no hassles whatsoever except their assessor (private oke) who wasted alot of my time as well as theirs...

On the end I got paid out more than my claim by a couple of Rands, which I found surprising as this was my first claim and dumbfounded by the whole process and the payout....

I'm happy as I know I'm with a good insurance company....

Anyone want contact details to my broker, pm me (they were the cheapest by the way)

Best advice I can ever give any of you is to deal with a broker. When you go direct with Outsurance, Miway etc you're dealing with call center agents who read off a script. When you deal with a broker, you're dealing with a professional.

Thank you for all the advice, comfort and support it is truly appreciate!

I will be in contact with Miway from 9-11-15 to establish method of assessment and I'm sure the visual tap and listen approach was used to keep cost down. The more professional approach to detect invisible damage to the inside/outside of frame

They gonna get out the rubber glove for you just because you had a crash?? Seems harsh.

Go to the press, too, particularly Wendy Knowler, she has a long list of complaints about MiWay and as soon as you squeal 'press', they make good on their responsibilities.

For what its worth, I'm with Alex Forbes. Never a single issue when I need to claim. I did once say to my lady who deals with my policy that I feel bad when I claim, she said " you pay the premiums, we're here to help you" My bikes are covered for everything including races.

Won't change from AF

Agree 100% , by far the best insurance I have ever come across. Never a single ounce of issues for any claims. They are not cheap, but worth every cent. Also bike covered for all risk, racing included.

My claims get approved under 7 hours by Outsurance even a R70k bike replacement. I pay about R100 more compaired to other companies but for same day claim and approved and 2 days for pay out and I am not even in a major city.

One word OMBUDSMAN, he will have a field day with them!

You can't approach the ombud until you have exhausted all avenues with the insurer directly.

Firstly, put it in writing to them that you do not want the frame repaired. Make it clear that no work should be done on it. Secondly, get a 3rd party to inspect the frame - preferably someone with expertise in carbon. Get a written report from them on the extent of the damage and the suggested course of action. Approach the formal MiWay complaints channel with the above, and contest the claim decision. If they still won't budge then you can approach the ombud to intervene.

It's very important that you keep a written record of all your interactions with them to date, and all future communications.

Can I justy ask the question. Why all these threats against the insurer, Hellopeter, ombudsman, press..... They have offered to repair the frame. If that is what the policy wording says they need to do then they are pretty much doing what you paid them to do.

MiWay is Santam. It is Santams direct insurer.

I say this in every insurance related thread, if you want to deal with direct insurers like Miway, iWyze, Outsurance, Dial Direct, King Price etc, please do not moan when you have claims issues. Direct insurers have a vested interest in repudiating claims.

The people saying that you should go to the ombudsman, I wouldn't waste your time, they have offered to repair it, it is probably what they are legally obliged to do. There is a reason Outsurance brags about their 12 in 10000 claims adverts. They usually win at the ombudsman as direct insurer policy wording is water right.

Call an accredited broker. Get a broker to get you the cover you want from the appropriate product. It is also in the brokers interest to get your claim settled as he wants to keep you as a client and will make sure re claim is submitted correctly and will usually fight for you along the claims process.

What this man said above

1.) Depending on the wording of your policy you may only be entitled to repair. Doesn't matter if you are not in the same place that you were before. Check your wording of your policy and what they covered you for.

2.) There is a string somewhere about car insurance and it was all the same thing. If you buy cheap you will get cheap. Goedkoop is Duurkoop especially in insurance.

Here's what the ombud says:

Incidentally, she was mentioned by intern, Wendy Knowler was until recently the chair of the OSTI board.
