720/2 = 360

440/2 220 = 220

360 - 220 =140 cm per side

Just making sure your maths is correct before you print the stickers

Your maths is on a par with your bunch riding skills if you worry about mtb's.... there is a BIG difference between cm and mm....

The main problem roadies have with mtb'krs riding in a bunch, is the fact that some mtb'krs can keep up the pace.. And that really peeves them off... Sometime the roadies even get dropped by the mtb'krs... Sad....

Have you ever heard about a roadie complaining that he dropped a mtb'kr?

Exactly, I agree -some can but most can't!

To be fair, at least in the sharp end of the field most mtb'ers don't last very long, especially if there is a nice big climb early in the race (I always think it is a waste of a good seeding when I see a mtb in one of the front starting chutes). The odd oke that can, fair enough & good on him.

Personally not a big fan of mtb's in fast racing groups, but I don't think there is anything to be done about it except staying out of their way and rejoicing when they inevitably get dropped. (Pity though about the following groups that gets stuck with them)

I have N + 0 bikes i.e. I own a MTB only. I will stick to riding my MTB where it belongs, off the tarmac, and will go on the road when I have a road bike. I think it is just better that way.

Personally I feel MTBs have no place in a road race ...or on the road for that matter (in a bunch). Besides the points others have mentioned above, wide bars, speed, etc. I think a far bigger risk is the fact that, I think, MTBers may not call out road hazards that they can just cruise over with their wide tires and suspension but that might be catastrophic if you hit them on 23mm tyres. I also find the sound of knoblies and the constant bobbing of guys us duel sus bike very distracting and annoying. Obviously if you're doing the 94.7 for sh1ts and giggles and starting at 10am with the rest of the fun riders knock yourself out but do you really have to boost your ego by doing it A bunch (even if you are fast enough). Just my 2c.

What is the difference between someone on a MTB that don't point out road hazards and someone that think that the 10am groups don't need pointing out of road hazards?

You can take a mtb to a roadie race...but you can't take a roadie fo a mtb race.

I'll take my chances, anyday, riding my 13kg duelly against a 115kg roadie on an 8kg bike.

The thread is going to suffer "first night burnout" so early on in the week.

Anyways, If the mtbs in road races bother you so mutch, HTFU, and make sure you start before them.

I agree - apart from the bit about noise and bobbing - that doesn't bother me at all.

Some years ago a mtb was in the top ten in the Argus - was front rider for at least the 1st 3rd  of the race.

You are far more unstable on your bike with narrow bars - who is to blame for that?

I think what is far more in the way and far more dangerous - is one's ego.

Many spills are also caused by attitude - how does one deal with that.

don't see any danger if the mtb'er can ride a bike.  They have better brakes, so braking in a bunch is likely the only potential concern, but then who brakes in a bunch anyway...

PS there was a dude on a dual-sus MTB (with slicks) in D bunch in the 94.7 sporting a respectable sub 2h50.  If anything, that dude motivated me, no way I was going to lose with my road bike against a twentynaainer.
