Brekkie & Best "In ride" nutrition and food

So, don't know if this has been dealt with before, but what do you guys and gals prefer to eat during the ride?

Obviously we are limited to what they serve sometimes.

What do you prefer and what works well. Also, what do you guys gulp down for breakfast?

This should also be relevant to stage racing and endurance stuff such as Attakwas etc.

Depends on the distance, short rides-nothing but water;medium rides-futurelife and some low-fibre fruit, long rides(60km and up),whip up a low-fibre smoothie, peanutbutter and honey sarmie. The reason I use low fibre,is because during a ride/race, I do not want to become #cliftonpooper. During rides, especially long rides,I take a race mix(500ml), and plain water, and in my pockets some dates(woolies) and a gel. This works for me, every persons body react differently to different foods, so maybe experiment a bit until you find what works for you.

Oats or some toast for me. When I did eat them I used to enjoy a egg and solders for breakfast! Peanut butter and banana sarmie and energy drinks for long rides.

2 boiled eggs for breakfast (every day whether riding or not).

If it's a 'race' I will take 200ml of water with 4 scoops of FiT DuraTrain about 2hrs before, training irrespective of distance or time I eat nothing else (can be up to 90k's MTB, round about 5hrs)

On the ride if it's training just water and perhaps a banana for halfway if it's a ride longer than 3hrs

'racing' I take 1 bottle of FiT CarboSupreme, 1 bottle of water and 1 SupaGoo for every half an hour, if it's longer than 3hrs or so I will take bananas (half for every hour)

Have recently started having corn thins (corn rice cakes) with peanut butter and honey. Have found it very pleasant and has all you could need for a long ride. Drink wise, I'm with the water only crew , have yet to find a palatable energy drink during heavy excersize or one that I felt any gain from.

Cadence carbofuel or marathon ?? I find they go down easy and has sustainable energy.

Woolies baby food - either long life or fresh. It's a puree so it goes down easily. No preservatives, or added anythings. Tastes good too.

Disclosure - I have an interest in the company. But have also heard of other folk using the same on some major stage races.

I mix futurlife with water to make a shake, because I have texture issues.

then on longer riders (3 hours) I have a banana and I always have a futurelife bar in the back pocket in case.

I have 32gi carb drink in the bottle when doing more than 2 hours.

I used to do the egg thing before races/long rides but have now switched to futurelife (regular, protein and especially oats versions) with surprisingly good results.

Normally, 3 boiled eggs and toast AFTER training ride.

During long rides/races BANANAS, mixed nuts, jelly babies, bar one (when sugar required).

I try avoid Coke during and after, as my stomach doesn't like it.

Goos only for an emergency

Still looking for the right race drink - have tried USD Purefit, 32GI and others but they all make me salivate / "slimy".

Breakfast before training or racing is usually the same thing:

4 or 5 table spoons of low sugar not roasted muesli

Add the following

Some chopped up fresh fruit (mango or pineapple or whatever fresh fruit is available)

1 scoop whey protein isolate

1 small probiotic drink or a little joghurt

Add water, mix and enjoy with a coffee

Favourite snack on long rides:

Toasted white bread snackwich with Peanut butter, banana and honey mix.

Before ride a sachet of Oats so Easy boiling water and a tablespoon of honey , during ride a banana + Jungle energy bar (peanut butter) flavour and Nutritech Endurade in my water bottles

Sub 2 hour rides no breakfast and only water.

Longer than 3 hours I have 2 scoops EnduraShake - I can't eat early in the morning, but the vanilla tastes like ice-cream, so   have no problems getting it down.

EnduraPower Lemonade in the bottle - 1 scoop per 750ml. Very light taste.

Race Food bars every hour.

I've found doing the same nutrition routine during training has helped me to stick to it during racing, it took my body a while to appreciate this, especially taking something in before riding.

If anyone is interested EnduraPower & EnduraShake are local products made by Pace and Power and are fantastic. I'm just a happy customer and a fan!
