I really love the Spez tyres, not the bikes.

Ive used conti in the past and they have sidewalls like sponges always air coming out of them. Protection se moer!!! Ive now got the last X-King Protection on the front of my SS and once thats done, Ill put a spez tyre on there.

Schwalbes I wont touch, all the tubes Ive ever used have been given to guys either in races or on normal rides. Now if you have a puncture and its a Schwalbe, my tube stays in my pocket, it isnt for free anymore.

Oom knows this, he has received from me but he was a gent and paid in beer

He has seen the light since then too

Recently put a Maxxis Ardent on front of the XC bike. Significantly more grip than the X-King I had on previously. Might also try the Ardent on the rear of the trail bike as well.

I sound like a broken record by now but I swear by my Ardent front Crossmark rear combo.

My 650B Trail bike:

Saguaro back and Goma front - This is the first 2.4" tyre I've ever ridden and I love it, weighs more than a kilo though.

Going On One Smorgasborg back and Chunky Monkey front next, just because I've already bought them.

Wife's 650B trail bike:

Saguaro front and back - She loves it. Will stick to this, maybe put a grippier tyre up front though.

My hardtail 29er:

Maxxis Ardent Front, Ikon back. Not near enough grip - I constantly flushed the front wheel out in berms or just slipped on anything.

Going Onza next - not sure which yet

Wife's hardtail 29er:

Still building this bike, but it will be Barzo's

Ja, I've only had good service from Maxxis over the years. I try to give different brands a go every now and again, but tend to gravitate back to Maxxis pretty soon.

Try dropping the Ardent's pressure lower than you think should be right and see how the grip improves. I am 110kgs and ride with ardent front and ikon back. I find even at my weight on non tubeless specific rims I need to run the ardent at around 1.5 bar. The difference between that a 2 bars is quite significant in terms of grip.

Hmmm...maybe try lower pressure?

Maxxis Ardent in the Front and Icon at the back.

As long as i don't need to put a crossmark on... I hated it from day one.

Probably because almost all the bikes that spec them as standard, just use the "performance" versions and not the "evo" versions. Performance versions are shaaaaaaite. They're like toilet paper. Snakeskin & Super Gravity versions are light years ahead ito durability.

All of them have been snakeskin versions, I know the differences

So I am currently riding WTB Trail Boss and Vigilante. AMAZiNG!!!

Perviously rode the WTB Bronson and Nano which was good but not as grippy.

Will stick with WTB.

I have used Continental too, tried 2 and ripped the sidewall cords on both. Also have a Kenda Slant Six as a rear once and was pleasantly surprised by the grip.

Maxxis icon, was not that impressed. Sliced a hole right in the middle of the tread going over a rock. That impression, and the long walk, will always stay with me.

Must be honest and say I like the WTB Vigilante up front. I pushed it hard yesterday at BCC which is XC and Fatbike country with its twisters and hairpins and it did not flinch once except where I rolled over sticks or debris rolling under the tyre. however I think I am going to a trailboss at the back very soon. Have some threads sticking out on some places on the wolverine at the back also found a small hole in the sidewall which I had to fix.

Schwalbe's snakeskin wall is better than the WTB light fast but honestly the newer 2015 on versions of their Nobby Nic started leaking like a sieve and left me with a flat tyre on the trail 4 times. the Hans Dampfs in Trailstar tear their edge blocks causeing traction problems. I did not try the rest... Wanted to try a Magic Mary front but since the issues on the 2015 tyres seem to be worldwide I stayed away. Pre 2015 Nobby nic was awesome and my wife still has it on her bike - no leaks and no issues.
