Then go ride up a hill in Plett or go KOM hunting, not some important race. That phuq-et attitide has cost the sport dearly.

which is why penalties are in place.

Attacks on your loved ones is not part of the penalty even if they are only cyber in nature.

Play the situation factually, not the man emotionally

@My stuff - I agree

I've chosen not to get involved in this as I was a previous fanboy and defended Kev. I've chosen also not to get involved as this mud flinging on the hub has almost been as bad as the one between the riders.

Gary, I wouldn't be surprised(just guessing) if Brandon E knew. Which is why it hurts all the more and can't really distance himself from it. I'm not saying he funded it purposefully, but Its a bit like the Mike Ross from "The Suits" thing. If you knew and didn't blow the whistle you have dirt on you and that is why this has taken so painfully long to come out?

For example..

Brandon Steward Rode 2007 Epic with Kev, Team MTN/ Energade - Raleigh was in its heydays, Dave George was a Road pro in the same team If I recall correct. Impey was also on that team? In 2011 Steward and Darren Lill rode the JBerg2C together although they clearly had a fallout some time after that. My point is all our old pros know each other well enough to know who is "juicing"..Especially if they did team camps together etc.

I was a big fanboy and ignorant of the "ugly" that was beneath a obviously very nice guy until a young current up-and-coming-pro spilt the beans over a cup of coffee a few years back.

Apparently some of the guys are so arrogant about the stuff, that they tell you to go get yourself a beer from the same fridge their stash is kept in and expect you not to tell. (This particular person has not even been caught/found guilty yet but I'm sure its next as CSA prob just don't have the means to fight all these cases at the same time)

Most of you would obviously have been the hero, but If I was a young up and comer I'd probably also be to scared to tell...I mean If you want to Blow the whistle loud enough for it to matter, you'd better be well prepared for the SH1TSTORM you'll have to face with so many people in the industry that are in on the whole thing not to speak of dirty riders that haven't been caught yet..the Lance thing. We have all learnt that..

But its no wonder it feels so damn good to finally be proven right - Fand, Darren etc

Anyway that's my 2c..

One has to be careful with words these days as lots of people have found out, I'm merely a previous fan boy who has learnt that people will always disappoint even our heros. But I'll always ride my bike ;)

denied. no explanation given.

Argust is in two weeks. "phuq it, who cares, I'll ride anyway. I'm not in it too win it!"

right or wrong?

Is there intent to cause harm or influence an outcome?

Also need to apply 30 days before the event

Should a recovering cancer patient not ride the Argust? Despite the fact that they may still be pumped up with UCI banned substances?

Simple, get a TUE.

Only after the money then?

I doubt it - I suspect he has done more for cycling in SA over the years than just about anyone else.... especially when MTB's were unknown worldwide.

True, but also with Twitter things can all to often be pulled out of context and topic. He was baited a few times and not being one to back down reacted to that accordingly as he felt, and people continued. There's a complete irony to the accusation of being a bully.

He should have just left it yes, the benefit of hindsight, outside observers and all that. None of us are perfect.

Twitter is for ragers, rational discussion is maybe 10% of the time. Nothing to do with being against or defending doping, it's about how people feel about THEIR opinion and the ensuing drama attraction. Nothing more, nothing less.

Personally, I find it pathetic and the resulting back biting, sniping and antics as a result are as bad as the doping itself, on all sides.

I agree, I'm not on Twitter for the reasons you mention. And I post here under my actual name, to keep things reasoned (which doesn't mean I am right, far from it in fact - but I do at least try to think things through for the large part)

I've stated before, I really like Kevin as a person, he was actually what you would want of any professional athlete (this last little incident aside), humble, respectable, courteous, diligent, determined - he's sadly though fallen in with some pretty terrible company now with his label as a doper.

But what are we the fans, the media, the sponsors etc to do with this doping culture, with these elephants in the room - dopers cannot just be allowed to say sorry, I made a mistake, see you in two years... the sport has been cheapened to a ridiculous point by these many individuals who've taken wages and winnings away from deserving honest athletes. It's those guys corner we all need to be in, it's those guys we need to fight for, it's those guys the dopers need to say sorry to.

Less denials, more apologies... that's what this sport needs

A Real Raleigh (from UK), or the rebranded local ones...

I read a book once "It's not about the bike"

It's Italian underneath I am led to believe.... got Deddecai  logos too - might be anything - still a great bike when it's not covered in dust.

So is he the victim now?

If he values his reputation over that of his golf buddy, he should condemn KE/BS and DG for what they have done.

Now, before this becomes a "why must Brandon Els do anything debate" remember that he had a blank Twitter timeline. (because he cleared it after the last spat and when BS got caught) Remember that he waged into this swinging. He should have known people where going to say "told you so, wella kapella" after news broke, right there and then he could have taken a stance agianst the dopers, yet he CHOSE to fight from their corner. His choice!!!

Careful as you often read too much in to what is being posted without actually clarifying it for yourself or understanding the context....but this I will say...the chaps that baited Oldcoot aren't angel either...cycling is the victim...as for your reference in him deleting his timeline...I was not impressed by that...it does look a bit like a cop out...but then again none of us were in his shoes.....as for our opinions here on The Hub...how many of the opinions on this thread have been totally and completely unbiased...every single one of us comments from some emotional connection and that could easily sway the way we feel...post or conduct ourselves...

I'm in the grey area in between

Bear in mind that the athlete will be informed of reasons (if denied) and can appeal the decision.

Yup. Just yup!

Without knowing him at all, he always appeared to be an intelligent, humble person. The cynic in me says that could be a ploy - if the other stories of arrogantly leaving their dope on the fridge is to be believed.

I also think a proper response is the way to go. A proper apology, a proper disclosure, a total reveal. Let the chips fall where they may. But that's only if he has the slightest interest in rebuilding his image - redemption isn't impossible, but all the Twitter rubbish won't help with that.

Lets leave my character out of this. If you would like to get to know me better, pm me and we can go for a ride.

This thread is about KE, his band of buddies and the mess they caused.

Of course not....but if they want to compete then they are welcome to a TUE....

Is there a list of people that have actually been granted TUE's

I have heard it is harder to get a Tue than it is to make water flow back up Vic falls in a flood

Again...nowhere or anywhere as a matter of fact was your character brought in to the equation..I never made Olcoot out to be a victim.....it's a simple and clear observation on your comment  So is he the victim now?

This thread also started out about Kevin accepting his doping charge...not the mess he and his band of buddies caused....it has since spiralled in to a discussion around all things doping as well as the Emma Sadlier incident...it clearly shows that we are passionate about dopers getting caught....
